And thankfully it’s the right one. We stayed on a wet, cold & miserable Monday but the small and perfectly-formed Artist Residence quickly warmed the cockles of our heart. Located centrally on the grand Regency Square, it’s on the right side of quirky and the attentive and ever-helpful staff all appeared genuinely happy to be working there. Spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable and pillows fresh. The breakfast was excellent, with an eclectic choice that appeared to match the tastes of the many varied European visitors. The view to the derelict pier perhaps provided a metaphor for our diminishing seaside heritage but with more wee places like this, who knows, the decline could be reversed? Our only gripe was the dawn chorus of cackling gulls, which I certainly can’t hold the Artists Residence responsible for!

Wonderful stay!Posted Aug 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
I had an amazing stay! All perfect! Can't wait to visit the other branch in Cornwell! The bedroom was fabulous, spotless - The staff always helpful and smiling, the breakfast was lovely and served in a gorgeous room with sea view, comfy sofa, cushions ... all so gypset! - The location is great too, just a few minutes walk from the beach and 5 minutes walk from the shopping centre, restaurants and transports. I will come back again very soon!

My partner, who was taking part in the Brighton marathon booked this hotel as she thought it sounded quirky and fun. Here are some tips if you have or are planning on booking in. If the staff say you can have breakfast early don't believe them, you will go hungry. If you are allocated room No9 be prepared to walk sideways its the only way you will get around the room or into the en-suite. Be careful how you sit on the loo the seat is loose. If you have more than several items to hang in the wardrobe don't unpack them they will not fit in. So far quirky and maybe fun. Now the serious points, the single glazed sash window (no sound insulation) was broken and with the slightest touch slammed down like a guillotine, this could cause extreme injury, becareful. On the morning we were checking out there was no cold water to the room from 8.00 to 9.20 which meant no shower and no hand basin. When I informed reception they told me it was because its an old building and this happens when every one demands cold water. The quirky and the fun had just run out. Good point, the bed was comfortable and clean and the continental breakfast was nice when it arrived.
