Great staff, great locationPosted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: The doors to rooms don't shut quietly, but slam noisily. Plus there was a fair bit of noise from extractor fans and, though less, from the air con
Cons: Make doors close quietly, sort out the noisy fans. Breakfast included would be nice, too, considering the price of the room
Location: The beach, great coffee shops, SeaWorld, the Brighton wheel
The staff were excellent, the bed was extremely comfortable, the breakfast was superb, all was very clean and in mostly good order.

Lovely start!Posted Mar 23, 2015
Pros: Clean, friendly , accommodating
Cons: All lovely
Location: Close to city , but enough out to not be effected by late night revelling. Theatres, restaurants, clubs and pubs in abundance
We stayed at the hotel on our Wedding night. The staff were extremely accommodating regarding bringing our bags in early before check in time and leaving a vehicle there for ease of going home in the morning. All the staff were suitably friendly and professional and made us feel special, though I am sure they treated everyone the same way. Very pleasantly pleased with our decision to stay there as opposed to some of the larger and more well known hotels in the city.

Stylish boutique hotel with great sea views.Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: Location, excellent staff and service, parking outside.
Cons: Guests like to arrive in a warm room with a little more space.
Location: It is in Brighton so the whole place was built for pleasure.
Drakes is a delightful small hotel in a great location with charming, efficient staff. We did not dine in but the breakfast and bar service were excellent with a wide range of good food and drinks. They also have, joy of joys, parking right outside the front door, which is a priceless facility when the wind whips across the promenade. The emphasis is on 'small' but they have done everything possible to compensate for its modest dimensions. If you imagine a post-post-modern version of 'cosy', this is probably it. That said, our double bedroom was quite amazingly small although packed with an eclectic combination of interior design styles and the now-obligatory plinthed bathtub where you might expect to find a desk. Not having checked their policy on pets, we would not recommend this room to anyone wishing to bring their cat with the intention of swinging it. Nor would your cat appreciate the wet-room shower which is, again, very stylish but includes the loo and so demands a very carefully planned schedule of use, even for the catless. The bed and bedding were excellent. Brighton generally, and Drakes in particular, are cool places to visit, especially in mid-February, so it was a bit surprising that the room heating had not been turned on before our arrival. (This is a uniquely English hotel habit in our experience). Fortunately there is a thoughtfully-provided extra fan heater and the one benefit of a small room is that it warms up quickly. The sea view makes up for it al!

Perfect location and attentive staffPosted Feb 9, 2015
Pros: Location, welcoming staff and comfort of the bed.
Location: Right next to Brighton Pier, The Sealife Centre. Accessible to Kemptown and Brighton Town Centre for the famous Laines shopping.
It was our Wedding Anniversary and was welcomed to a room upgrade on our arrival. The staff were genuinely please to greet us. We had a room on the 3rd floor which was up a beautiful staircase, no lifts but the Lady offered to put my bag in a 'luggage' lift for me. The views from the room overlooking the Beach and Pier were lovely. The room was quite small but it was warm and comfortable with Sky TV and free Wifi in your room, Tea and cafeteria coffee making facilities and bottles of water. The bathroom is a wet room with two glass doors, also a freestanding bath in the bedroom. We didn't use the bar or restaurant so unfortunately cannot comment on this. There is parking for about 4 cars outside the hotel or you use the building next door which is rented from the hotel.

Great hotel, ace staff - highly recommended!Posted Feb 2, 2015
Pros: Great staff, food, location. Will definitely stay again. Nothing too much trouble.
Cons: Bigger toiletries near bath as small 'gift' bag soon ran out and the ones in wet room were 'locked down' against theivery, I assume!
Location: We had made no plans whatsoever to leave the room for whole weekend but beach, shops, Kemptown, Lanes, food - all right on the doorstep.
Booked last minute and staff were quick to ring back to upgrade me to a room that met my wishlist for a special getaway. We were happy to climb the 4 flights of stairs to get an attic room and don't object at all to looking out over the rooftops of Kemptown rather than the sea. So peaceful at night and really great bed. I drove a LONG way and was happy just to be able to park securely next door despite relatively high cost. Bed was extremely comfy, a great height and lovely pillows. 2 desk chairs, 2 armchairs and a bath in the room (as requested). Staff were friendly and chatty - even offered to have bath run for my arrival. Restaurant was cosy, packed and a bargain for the great food on offer. Really recommend it. Partner has food intolerance and this was catered for both in restaurant and for bar snacks which really impressed us. I normally stay in the H du V but will come back here next time as compared well. Staff were really friendly and The concierge service is great - there were loads of things on offer that we hadn't even thought of wanting but could imagine enjoying! Don't forget your 'Do Not Disturb' sign though - staff are very attentive and you might get offered tea and biscuits at an inopportune moment ;) Breakfast in the room was delicious also. Toilet next to the bed (through glass 'swing' doors) might not be to everyone's taste but didn't bother us and having it within the wetroom might be a plus for some residents, I suppose... we didn't mind it.

Great place to stay for a short break.Posted Dec 23, 2014
Pros: Friendliness of staff, location, tasteful decoration - not a bit of chintz in sight....
On arrival we received an unexpected upgrade which was a lovely start to our stay. Our room had a wonderful view of the sea and pier and was very comfortable. We booked a table in the hotel restaurant that night and were not disappointed as the food was fantastic. Within walking distance of the lanes and shops and we even managed a stroll along the front in the morning. Had to pay for a parking space but were allowed to leave car there after checkout which was very reasonable.

Very caring staff & great hotelPosted Dec 23, 2014 on Hotels.com
2 nights Dec 2014. Check in is at the bar, where there was a Xmas party in progress, so a little unusual... Room (102) attractive, fairly small. Small but funky wet room. Bath under "window". (Window is covered with opaque & reflective plastic as there is no view). Very comfortable bed & bedding. Extractor right outside window..sounds like a Diesel engine from about 7am til 11:30pm. We had air-con off, so possibly with air-con on it would hardly be noticeable? The next morning I mentioned this and we were moved to 403 with no fuss at all. Room 403 is bigger ( normally more expensive), with a view north out through attic windows. A long walk up the stairs. We liked the room. In summary, very caring staff, lovely hotel, but perhaps not 102.
