Small and close to beachPosted Jun 22, 2015
Ok. Very ordinary and rather dark and dingy reception and cocktail bar. Wet room with no towel or clothes hanging space. Very high TV impossible to watch with comfort. Overall very average

NoisePosted Apr 2, 2015 on Hotels
We were very disappointed with Drakes. Whilst the rooms are quite well appointed they are noisy. We changed rooms three times. Each room was either impacted by external noise or internal fans to the point of. Sing intrusive. We had an extremely poor nights sleep. We commented specifically on checking out to the receptionist only to be told he was aware of the problems. I believe the hotel should not have sold the rooms if they were aware of the problems. We were not offered any recompense. We will not be staying at Drakes again.

Great staff, great locationPosted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: The doors to rooms don't shut quietly, but slam noisily. Plus there was a fair bit of noise from extractor fans and, though less, from the air con
Cons: Make doors close quietly, sort out the noisy fans. Breakfast included would be nice, too, considering the price of the room
Location: The beach, great coffee shops, SeaWorld, the Brighton wheel
The staff were excellent, the bed was extremely comfortable, the breakfast was superb, all was very clean and in mostly good order.

Lovely start!Posted Mar 23, 2015
Pros: Clean, friendly , accommodating
Cons: All lovely
Location: Close to city , but enough out to not be effected by late night revelling. Theatres, restaurants, clubs and pubs in abundance
We stayed at the hotel on our Wedding night. The staff were extremely accommodating regarding bringing our bags in early before check in time and leaving a vehicle there for ease of going home in the morning. All the staff were suitably friendly and professional and made us feel special, though I am sure they treated everyone the same way. Very pleasantly pleased with our decision to stay there as opposed to some of the larger and more well known hotels in the city.

Fab. All the staff very friendly and helpful with Stephanie in partic being outstanding. Great location for city centre as well as seafront. Had a ringside bedroom - can't speak for the smaller rooms. Will definitely return here.

Stylish boutique hotel with great sea views.Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: Location, excellent staff and service, parking outside.
Cons: Guests like to arrive in a warm room with a little more space.
Location: It is in Brighton so the whole place was built for pleasure.
Drakes is a delightful small hotel in a great location with charming, efficient staff. We did not dine in but the breakfast and bar service were excellent with a wide range of good food and drinks. They also have, joy of joys, parking right outside the front door, which is a priceless facility when the wind whips across the promenade. The emphasis is on 'small' but they have done everything possible to compensate for its modest dimensions. If you imagine a post-post-modern version of 'cosy', this is probably it. That said, our double bedroom was quite amazingly small although packed with an eclectic combination of interior design styles and the now-obligatory plinthed bathtub where you might expect to find a desk. Not having checked their policy on pets, we would not recommend this room to anyone wishing to bring their cat with the intention of swinging it. Nor would your cat appreciate the wet-room shower which is, again, very stylish but includes the loo and so demands a very carefully planned schedule of use, even for the catless. The bed and bedding were excellent. Brighton generally, and Drakes in particular, are cool places to visit, especially in mid-February, so it was a bit surprising that the room heating had not been turned on before our arrival. (This is a uniquely English hotel habit in our experience). Fortunately there is a thoughtfully-provided extra fan heater and the one benefit of a small room is that it warms up quickly. The sea view makes up for it al!
