Good central position in Rye High Street

Posted Jun 28, 2014
Pros: The staff were very accommodating. We liked the character of it and the quirky furnishings. Breakfast was very good and the lounge is comfortable,
Cons: Our room was uncomfortably hot one muggy night as the heated towel rail could not be turned off and the bathroom window barely opened.
Location: We walked from Rye Harbour across to Winchelsea beach (great for twitchers), visited Great Dixter, and went to Hastings.
A characterful hotel in a lovely part of the world, convenient for visiting some lovely places.

fantastic hotel, helpful staff,good restaurant

Pros: central location in Rye and ambience
Cons: room soundproofing
Location: rye is a marvelous small town worth a visit as is the surrounding beautiful country side all less than an hour from the Channel Tunnel
very good hotel with good cuisine in restaurant but superior room facing onto courtyard suffered from noise from both kitchen and those using courtyard drinking and smoking into late hours.

Nice hotel but no parki g

Really nice stay in a lovely town. The only issue is I couldn't pull up in front of the hotel to drop my bags and clothes off for a wedding. No available parking , so had to walk a distance from the hotel and park my car in a public parking area , which I didn't feel comfortable about.

Lovely hotel in the centre of the town

Cons: The restaurant, especially the section which we sat in near the bar, would benefit from better ventilation, as the kitchen smells were a bit intrusive
We had a warm welcome, and were given a lovely room

Great position

Posted Apr 7, 2014
This small hotel is found in a fabulous position, along the High Street in Rye. The food for dinner and breakfast was excellent. ( My daughter is a chef, I was surprised to see the chef on the pass was chewing gum...) There were a few small niggles. EG kettle in room did not switch off. Carpet on lower stairs needed replacing. But all in all a great stay.

Romantic getaway

My partner & I stayed at The George for one night, in room 10 which is one of the deluxe rooms, in the attic. Beautiful, cosy room, massive bathroom, comfy bed... Can't fault it. We dined in the restaurant - the food was fabulous, the pig's cheeks in particular. There's a lovely little courtyard too, where you can have a few drinks before dinner. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice, I had Eggs Florentine which was delicious. The whole place is just the kind of quaint English old-world inn that we love.
