“Lovely stay”

We had a great stay at The Barcelo Old Ship in Brighton and would highly recommend it. Lovely, friendly staff, great room with lovely touches, big TV and a really comfortable bed. We had a brilliant nights sleep followed by a delicious breakfast. Brilliant location.

“Good location for stag do”

I was in Brighton for my sons stag do and found the location was perfect for easy access to the pubs,clubs and restaurants. Reception very helpful and although policy for car parking is that it can't be reserved, they did reserve a place for me as I had a bad knee and did not want to drag my suitcases from the car park across the road. Hotel is old fashioned but my room was large with comfortable bed. Breakfast offered good choice and cooked breakfast not bad for a large hotel.

“Disappointing, rude staff”

Didn't enjoy it at all. I arrived and they had trouble finding my booking. When they finally found it I went up to the room (which had a sea view, very nice). But there was still someone else's luggage in the room! I had to call reception 3 times before someone finally came pick them up. When unpacking my luggage it turned out there was still someone else's clothes as well in the wardrobe. The room seemed cleaned but apparently cleaning staff doesn't find it strange when people leave their luggage behind... There were also cobwebs in the room. I complained to reception but the guy there seemed to think it was all pretty normal. He just kept nodding and smiling at me like it was all very normal. Really, really irritating. He has no idea of customers service, he could have offered me a drink or something for compensation, something nice. But no. Breakfast was okay, not exceptionally tasty. They make fresh waffels & omelets on the weekend. I didn't get to taste the waffels because the chef wanders off 20 minutes before breakfast ends only to come back to clean up at ending time of breakfast. At breakfast there's also an older waitress who is rude and generally annoying. She has a terrible voice and will shout at you from across the room to tell you they are taking away the hot food. The location of the hotel is good. From the inside it looks pretty tired. Bed was good enough. Pretty good hotel except for the staff, did not like a single one of them.
