Overnight stay

Posted Jun 1, 2011 on Hotels.com
This was our first experience of the Waterside Hotel after a friend's recommendation and it wasn't a bad one at all. We stayed for one night for a wedding and the hotel was sufficient for our needs of using the hotel as a base. We managed to find a car parking space fairly quickly on arrival having had to circle the hotel only twice but I think we were lucky as there definitely was a lack of parking spaces on either the road side or behind the hotel on the residential roads. The room was clean but a bit on the small side with a double bed and a small walk space around the bed. This wasn't particularly a major problem but we did need to coordinate our changing so as to not get in each other's way. Although the room was decorated fairly well and had the usual facilities of a closet, free to use room safe, tea/coffee making facility, large flat screen TV and bed side lights there was an unusual mix of old furniture and contemporary fixtures. The bed was comfortable and warm. The shower room was a mini wet room which was nice but as with all wet rooms everything in there got wet including the toilet and the entire tiled floor which may cause a slipping hazard for those with unsure footing. The only way of keeping the floor dry was to put down towels on the floor. The extractor fan was not up to the job of keeping the wet room free from steam and subsequently the mirror in there became useless and so the small bedroom mirror had to be used. Definitely a difficult way of shaving. The staff were very courteous and polite and with a hearty cooked English breakfast included in our price paid it was a very nice overall experience. Staying at the Waterside hotel was a pleasant experience for our purpose of using it as a base but it may cause certain guests some frustration if you're looking for a large roomed hotel. Recommended as a short term base.

fine standard B+B

the hotel was a comfortable B+B, but failed to meet the standard they are pitching themselves in as luxury boutique.
