Best hotel in Slovakia

Posted Sep 15, 2014
Pros: The food, the service, the spa.
Cons: Perhaps a wider ranging menu, but that's splitting hairs.
Location: Hiking, biking, boating. Skiing (limited compared to the Alps) in winter.
This is a really great hotel - some hotels are 5 star but don't live up to the billing. This hotel really meets the grade. Staff are wonderfully helpful (and almost universally English speaking) and the facilities are great. Make good use of the wonderful spa facilities while you're there. Food's great, views are great - basically it's all great. The village of Strbske Pleso is a bit of an Iron Curtain era monstrosity of civic planning, and it doesn't help that the skyline of imposing mountains is rather dominated by two abandoned ski jumps, but the lake (Pleso) itself is lovely, as are the High Tatra mountains that are right there. All the hikes are really well marked so give them a go. Be aware that this is a 5 star hotel so a beer or G&T at the bar will be the same price as in a bar in London. If you're short on spending money, there are bars in the village and you can get a pint of local beer for 1 Euro!

Excellent

It's pricy, but everything here is done to perfection. Staff are attentive, friendly, chatty and smiley without exception. Our room was spotless and the breakfast buffet is top notch. The ski resort is 10 minutes away on foot, across the frozen lake from the hotel. We also stayed in a slightly cheaper 4 star hotel locally and the Kempinski was worth every penny of the price difference and more. Very good indeed.

A Jewel in High Tatras

It's a wonderful hotel in every way in a beautiful part of Skovakia. Great place to stay in luxury and enjoy the outdoors and this great hotel with a terrific spa While I was not there for the ski season it is certainly in my plans in the near future and the hotel has great ski packages which include the lifts while being pampered at the spa and great restaurant

Fantastic hotel in the beautiful High Tatras

Posted Sep 3, 2013
Pros: The scenery and the setting are great with plenty good walks starting from the village and lake.
Cons: The spa treatments are a bit pricey.
Location: Location is a bit out the way and off the beaten track , but that's part of what makes it so good.
Stopped in the Kempinski 2 years running , top quality where least expected

Terrific Hotel! Simply Impressive.

Exceeds all expectations. Breakfast and wellness area were included. Some majr North American Hotels could learn a lot from the Kempinski chain.

Great location

The hotel is great, the swimming pool view is to die for. The breakfast buffet is amazing, but the lunch at the bar or the dinner upstairs is overpriced, very small portions and not good at all. Eat somewhere else. They need to improve their lunch and dinner menu.

Excellent 5* hotel

Posted Sep 4, 2012
We stayed for a week and had excellent holidays, hotel is fantastically situated and has been wonderfully reconstructed, staff is attentive, rooms are spacy with magnificent views. The only drawback was the ZION Spa. We booked several treatments and although there was a lower rate to be applied (until 3pm), we were repetitively charged the higher rate due to the "fact" that the treatment ended after 3pm - e. g. by 10 minutes.

Excellent hotel

Posted Aug 14, 2012
Pros: Location on the lake, size of room, breakfast and five star service
Cons: Hot room and drink prices in restaurant
Location: Good location on lake. Easier to get to everything else if you have a car
The hotel was fantastic! Really good value for money. It is very grand, with excellent facilities and helpful, friendly staff. The rooms are huge, including seperate walk in dressing rooms. Breakfast was an excellent range and dinner in the restaurant was wonderful. Only two criticisms: there is no air con and when you open the windows to cool the room you are plagued by misquitoes; dinner in the main restaurant costs a fortune! Although you get a price list for the food to choose from, you don't for drinks. We got charged $25 a glass for champagne - I would not have ordered it if I knew it was so much.
