Fantastic city hotel, brilliant locationPosted Feb 18, 2015
Pros: Decor is modern and fun, staff are fantastic, location is wonderful
Location: Easy walk to the castle, Princes street gardens and the Scott Monument and city centre. Plenty of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants on the doorstep.
Enjoyed a wonderful midweekl stay at the Grassmarket hotel. Staff were welcoming and friendly from the word go. We dropped our bags off in the morning as we had an early flight and were offered complimentary tea or coffee before we left to explore the city. Check in that afternoon was brief and easy and they had taken our bags up to our room for us which was really wonderful. We also got the surprise of a gorgeous box of chocolates and a birthday card beautifully presented waiting on us in the room. I had only mentioned in passing correspondence that the break was a birthday gift and this little touch really put a smile on our faces. The staff were so approachable and friendly and really made us feel like nothing was a problem to them. The room was fantastic, we were in the back part of the hotel so although it was a bit trickier to get to it was quiet and there was absolutely no noise disturbance at all during our stay. All staff that we encountered, including the manager, Chris, were so friendly and genuinely seemed interested and happy to help with anything from directions to food recommendations. The complimentary tea and coffee and pick 'n' mix in the reception area is such a lovely touch, as are the Tunnocks teacakes in the room. The sound system in the bedroom and bathroom that allows you to hook up your own music was fantastic. All the little touches really add to the overall experience of the hotel and made our stay so memorable. We will most definitely be back.

Very cute hotel, with large roomsPosted Feb 8, 2015
Pros: clean, unique, excellent location.
Unfortunately only had one night to stay. Was very impressed with the location and the uniqueness of the hotel. By far a very large room in European standards.

wonderful hotel! The staff was friendly, helpful, and the room was extremely comfortable, unique, and homey. Price was also fantastic. I couldn't have asked for a better lodging experience while in Edinburgh!

Really nice refurbished central hotelPosted Jan 29, 2015
Pros: Great location, clean, warm and the redecoration looks great!
Location: Very central, close to Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile and accompanying entertainments.
I stayed at this hotel some years ago, when it was a bit tired and run-down looking... returning in 2015, I saw a huge difference! Rooms have been redecorated and are cheerful and attractive (mine had a retro comics theme). Heating was very warm, despite the zero-degree weather and snow outside, and it is possible to adjust the temperature from within the room. Tea, coffee facilities (and a teacake on arrival!) were excellent, and the en suite bathroom was similarly warm, clean and well-appointed. The location is also excellent -- literally fewer than five minutes' walk from the Royal Mile, wonderful pubs, restaurants and nightclubs. Excellent, will definitely be staying again.

Cool hotel in great central locationPosted Jan 16, 2015
Super friendly and helpful staff, attention to every detail. The room was tidy but comfortable and well equipped (but no fridge & table was very small). Cool and colorful furniture and design, local products offered (sweets, creams, etc) + anything that fits in you luggage (cups, pillows, ..) you can take it with you! If you pay, of course! ;-) Finally, great location in the lively grassmarket, at the feet of the castle.

Great location, funky decor, great staff!Posted Jan 7, 2015
Pros: Decor and staff.
Cons: in our room, 314, there were blue ,lights that lit up the hotel and they lit up our room a little bit. would ask to turn these off at night.
Location: great location, very pretty, castle near by and royal mile and lots of great cafes and bars. try Mary's Milk and Hula.
The location of this hotel was perfect, 10 min walk from station and less to the castle. Was in a lovely area too, with lots of lovely little cafes and bars around... and really pretty too! The hotel itself was modern and funky and really loved the design. The best thing about the hotel was the staff, really helpful and friendly. Was our anniversary and the staff had even put out some chocolates and an anniversary card for us! The hotel also connected to a pub (our room wasn't noisy at all) which was a great place.. live bands on both nights we were there and quick service, didn't eat there so not sure on the food. We did eat at Hula cafe next door and that was fab, great juices! The bedroom was compact, but didn't bother us at all, had enough room for a 3 night stay. The bed was so comfy and bathroom lovely and modern and clean. massive TV and felt really relaxed and chilled.
