Tranquil location outside EdinburghPosted Aug 24, 2014
I'd highly recommend Highfield House, it's a beautiful old country house, with a lovely peaceful atmosphere and an idyllic garden which guests are free to enjoy. My room was large, with a huge bed, and the ensuite bathroom had a bath big enough for me to lie down in! Jill ably runs the B&B, the breakfast was really nice, and guests ate all together at the large table, which I found sociable and fun, as a lone traveller. Jill is a great hostess, very approachable and full of sensible suggestions about things to do and where to go. Trains run frequently to Edinburgh city centre a few miles away. It was just my kind of place, homely, comfortable and welcoming.

Old and tiredPosted Jul 2, 2014
Lovely gardens. Good welcome, house very very tired. Only 1 tea bag and 1 small milk per person, as we were leaving very early in the morning would have been nice to have another cup of tea, no breakfast required because of early checkout, however we were asked for an extra £6 As our double room booking had only one name.

Beautiful old housePosted Jun 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
Unfortunately the owners of the house were away during our stay and it was strange going into another persons house when no one was home.

Friendly and beautiful period bed and breakfast.Posted May 23, 2014
Pros: House, gardens, tasty food, nearby running routes and easy access to city and towns. Friendly owners.
Location: Everything you need from Edinburgh city and nearby shopping towns
I had a perfect stay with friendly, interesting hosts and guests to meet. Beautiful period family home yet so large to include tennis courts and garden facilities and thus offered a hotel-like private space. My fussy vegetarian, gluten free diet was easily catered for. The rural location made running in the forests and farmland before breakfast easy to achieve before my busy days. Only 10 minutes drive away I had family and shopping in Edinburgh city and Livingston Town. The perfect location for me. I'll be back!

Highfield House, worth a visitPosted Nov 10, 2013
My wife and I booked into Highfield House for one night only, as we were there for my wifes' sisters' surprise birthday party. The rooms are comfortable and the ambience is very in keeping with the houses 300 years, It is a wonderful place with plenty of character and there is something of interest everywhere you look. You do get a very peaceful nights sleep in extremely comfortable beds. Gill is a very pleasant woman and very helpful. We had two relatives that needed somewhere to change before the party and Gill said it was quite alright to for them to use our room. I should point out though, that it is a hard place to find in the dark, as there are no signs like Premier, Holiday in and the like. All there is is a small nameplate on the gate. Just remember that it is right opposite the school. All in all, a very nice stay ,,, and I would use Highfield again should the need ever arise.

Fantastic ServicePosted Jun 18, 2013 on Hotels.com
Highfield house is a fantastic building, with a large clean room. The location was perfect, being remote enough to enjoy the countryside but close enough for a day trip to Edinburgh, being a 15 min drive to the centre. I would recommend this great B&B to anyone.
