“Great location for a great hotel”

Hotel is in perfect location. Easy access from airport by airport bus. Easy access to tourist locations, shopping and good restaurants. Loved room 200 at hotel - good view of castle. Good breakfast and we even tried their afternoon tea. Would stay there next time.

“Edinburgh's Best”

The hotel is beautiful, well located and boasts an extremely friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are quiet, well appointed with very nice decor and wonderfully comfortable beds. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visting Edinburgh.

“Historic hotel with modern decor and comfy rooms!”

This place rules. It's a beautiful historic building with great views of the castle. I feel the pool and hot tub area could be updated, but it was quite relaxing soaking while looking at Edinburgh Castle. The staff were very helpful and polite. I highly recommend this hotel.

Area recommendations

The Prince Street area had an amazing park with views of Edinburgh Castle. We also ate our best meals of our entire Scotland adventure around that neighborhood. My family had a blast at a bar down there too.

Rabbies tours picked us up in a Mercedes coach that was very comfortable and took us on a two day tour of the Highlands. The guide was terrific and the landscape amazing.

“great location”

Excellent front desk help and service, great pillows and location is walking distance to everything. Only complaints were we were put in the older side of the hotel which was disappointing and there was no free internet use.

“A Great Stay”

We had a wonderful time at the Caledonian. The rooms are nice with high ceilings and good lighting. The bathrooms are nice and big and the towels are amazing for hotel towels. The staff is very professional and accomadating. There was a large group staying at the hotel with older children that pretty much took over the lobby area. They also brought in their own food which seemed rather presumptious but the staff handled all of this with grace. The location makes it ideal for walking and public transportation. One of the Caledonian employees was considered the expert on the local buses and indeed he was! He could tell us which bus to take and where to catch it without hesitating. He got us to Glasgow and Rosslyn Chapel without a problem. I will be going back to the Caldonian for certain.

“Not bad”

The outside of the hotel is fabulous! It's close to the Edinburgh Castle, but in the New Town (Old Town is quite charming, and may stay there next time). The room service was excellent! I've never had room service so fast. We were not in one of the new rooms and did not have a view. I've heard the new rooms with castle views are great. I had requested one since we were celebrating our anniversary, but did not get one. Our room was small, but the bathroom was a really nice size. The room was clean. I've already recommended to my mother who will be going in a month.

Area recommendations

The Old Town looked very charming and is right in the heart of the Royal Mile. However, the New Town is not bad - just newer. It's not too far to walk to the castle. I would suggest going to the castle first, then walking down the royal mile to the palace of holyroodhouse. It's wonderful!

“Great Staff”

The doormen were lifesavers and helped us out quite a bit. The rest of the staff were also extremely helpful and nice as well.
