“A Great Weekend Escape to Edinburgh”

There are not many hotels in Edinburgh with a spa, full gym, fitness classes and indoor swimming pool/sauna/steam room included in the room rate. This one is also within walking distance to the shopping "mile" and Edinburgh Castle, and some great restaurants. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel - we went across the street to Browns and also ate dinner nearby at TigerLily. Lots to do, much to choose from, and an excellent location close to all the museums and shopping. (There's also a Starbucks a block away.) This was a girls-weekend shopping-n-museums getaway with a friend from work but I'll definitely come back with my husband, and I'll get a fireplace room then.

Area recommendations

Make sure you wear good walking shoes because there is much to see in Edinburgh. The famous Edinburgh Castle is very near the hotel (you can walk up the hill on a steep path from the park below) and the shopping "mile" starts in the castle parking lot and runs down to Holyrood Palace. The art museums are truly great for a city of this size, and if you remain along the route nothing is very far from the central mile of shops. We found wonderful unique Scottish gift items within the museums and castle gift shops - not tacky touristy items so much as truly beautiful and unusual things. Two days was not long enough for Edinburgh. We didn't have time to take any of the tours outside of the city center. However the hotel's concierge is a wealth of knowledge - his restaurant, museum and shopping recommendations were spot on. Next time we'll take one or two of the tours he suggested.

“Nice hotel, close to everything!”

This hotel was very nice to stay in, the staff (w/ exception of one) was extremely pleasant and helpful--the concierage especially! The only suggestion I would have is to get breakfast elsewhere unless you plan on eating a feast. It cost 17.90 GBP for a buffet and you could not order ala carte, so you could end up paying 40USD for a coffee and croissant. Other than that the hotel was nice and very close to Princes St and restaurants on Rose St.
