Great location, great hotel...Posted Dec 5, 2013
Firstly, Malmaison Leith is a great hotel. I've stayed in a couple of Malmaison hotels and I guess they're really targeting label-disciples who do things to impress. The decor is dark and mysterious and the lighting is intentionally low - think "branch of Abercrombie and Fitch". Even the slogans on the toiletries are intended to be "down with the kids", although it appears more to be the efforts of someone with a Disney tie and pony-tail who's is trying too hard... Anyway, the hotel comes highly recommended, but mostly because of the location. The Shore area of Leith is superb if you want to be away from the touristy bustle of the city. And if you're a foodie, it's unmissable! Fantastic restaurants, nice bars, great real ale pubs. If you're in Edinburgh on business and just want a quiet place for a bite to eat and a few drinks all within a few hundred yards, Malmaison Leith is a great place to base yourself.

Lovely hotel in excellent location for our stayPosted Sep 10, 2012
Pros: Excellent staff and very comfortable room
Cons: Silly little room problems that should not have been there - as reported
Location: Excellent location as we were having dinner at the Kitchin
Sink plug was broken and the shower door did not shut properely. For the cost we paid for this room we thought breakfast was included but was not and we would have liked the supply of bathrobes. However on the positive side the room was very comfortable but was very dim in the evening - not enough lights. Staff were excellent - very helpful

A pleasant stay shame about the lift,Posted Jul 2, 2012
Pros: Nice atmosphere throughout
Cons: The deluge shower and the smelly lift
Location: Its much better than first impressions on arrival.
The Hotel is situated is surrounded by the old docks and there is still development taking place but its a fairly quiet and nice location. On check in our room wasn't ready but we were upgraded to a suite at no extra charge. The room was spacious and well appointed and the bed very comfortable for a good night sleep. I didn't really like the deluge shower but everything else was fine. One minor niggle during the stay was the awful smell in the lift. There are some very good bars and restaurants nearby and the Royal Yacht Britannia is nearby at the Ocean Centre.

Great stay as usual in a MalPosted Mar 16, 2012
usual malmaison experience, friendly helpful staff, comfortable unusual rooms. Always choose a mal when I can!
