Great hotel, highly reccommendedPosted Dec 16, 2013
Pros: Good location. Big, clean, comfortable room. Beautiful Christmas decorations. The staff were polite and attentive and the food was delicious.
Location: Good location. The hotel is a short walk from the main city attractions on a beautiful, quiet, cobbled Georgian Street.

Still a Great Hotel!Posted Dec 16, 2013
Pros: Rooms, Breakfast and Service.
Cons: The room was quite warm, and it seemed to not be possible to control the radiators, as Edinburgh was unusually warm for December.
Location: Locationwise the Nira is set back from the Princes street areas, but its only a short walk through some lovely areas to get into town.
Have stayed here before on business, and it's a great hotel. The room was a good size, and the excellent vita sound system + iPod dock is a really nice feature. Great wi-fi too, and it's included in the rate. The Breakfast was again very good and was also included in the rate. Having stayed in several Edinburgh hotels, I'd say that you'll have to go some way to find this high level of quality and service for the cost. Will stay here again.

Nice cozy place!!Posted Dec 5, 2013
I was looking to stay in a hotel with a slightly old world feel and this was perfect!! The staff was very friendly and nice, the room was quite spacious. I loved the nespresso machine in my room. The awesome part was the jacuzzi tub in my bathroom which i made full use of in my three days of stay! We had lovely breakfast included in our booking so it all went really well. And its not very far from the city centre and me and my husband used to walk there easily everyday. I woukd definitely stay there again!!

Gorgeous hotel, in a beautiful part of EdinburghPosted Oct 31, 2013
Location: MUST VISIT: The Castle Terrace restaurant and the Scran and Scally pub/restaurant!
We visited the Nira Caledonia in October 2013 and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. We stayed in a jacuzzi suite which was absolutely beautiful, and the little touches (Tunnocks treats, nice coffee, rose petals on the bed when we arrived back from our evening meal) were just the icing on the cake. I can't recommend this hotel enough, we'll definitely be back.

Great location in the center of townPosted Oct 23, 2013
Pros: Great breakfast, free WiFi, In house restaurant that was great for dining and a very friendly staff.
Cons: There were some maintenance issues. Even thought they did not have a direct impact on us, it was an inconveniences. There was a leak in the stairway
Location: Great location. see above experience comment
The hotel was ideal for what we wanted to do in Edinburgh. All major sites were within walking distance. The hotel staff was extremely courteous and helpful. There were great at recommending locations to see and places to eat. Even though it was not a bed and breakfast, it had the look and feel of one. The room was outstanding. It had been recently remodeled with them decorations and had all of the modern accessories you would desire and expect in a 4 or 5 star hotel. However, did not have a gym or exercise room. Of course, you would not expect an exercise room in a bed and breakfast. Overall experience was great.

hotel in edinburghPosted Oct 17, 2013
Hotel was nice but I was very disappointed that we didn't receive our drinks on arrival as I was told on the phone we would, it was my fiance's birthday and although this didn't ruin our stay it did put a dampner on it esp as its a 5 star hotel and I spend a bit of money on a suite.

Lovely Period Hotel in New TownPosted Oct 5, 2013
Pros: Garden, Location, Staff, Food.
Cons: Shower fittings worn out, so had to hold the shower, also the water had a tendency to spill under the guard, and all over the floor. No desk in room.
Location: Classical Edinburgh Georgian squares, and wide cobbled streets. The city center is only a short 5-10 min walk south.
Really good stay, was upgraded on arrival, and given a smart room with a garden view. Staff were all really nice, and couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was superb, and well worth it. Wi-Fi was free and very stable, which was great, only real gripe was the lack of desk in the room, which seemed a bit odd, but not a problem as I set outside in the garden area and worked instead! Location wise its a short 5-10 walk up the hill towards Princes street, and the city center. The the immediate area is all Georgian residential squares, and very quiet. Have booked again in December!

Ideal location for exploring EdinburghPosted Oct 1, 2013
Pros: Rooms were a little hot but it was unseasonably warm.
Cons: Breakfast service could be a bit faster.
Location: Stockbridge, botanical gardens, dean village, Leo's beanery and other great cafes.
Fantastic location for exploring Edinburgh, especially Stockbridge, Botanical Gardens and a short walk to Princes Street. Staff friendly. Rooms fabulous.

Sorry to say, but not again.Posted Sep 26, 2013
Pros: The bed was comfortable.
Cons: A real concierge. They need to know the taxi's they can trust not to overcharge!
Location: Location was quiet as it was away from everything! You start your day with 10 to 15 min walk, depending on how fast you want to climb the hill.
To get to the main areas of town you had to begin your day with a 15 min up hill walk. I woke up the first morning cold. I was later informed that the heat was on a timer to go off at night. The hot water in bath must have been on timer also as I had to take one cold shower. I am 5'1" and 108lbs. Anyone bigger will have a tight fit in the shower! Think airplane bathroom size. The staff was friendly but not especially helpful. Couple of nights I rang the front desk and could not get anyone to answer. I was told there was only one person on staff. Asking for private hiking guide---they printed out a tour page from the internet. I could have done that. They did not have any special guidance of seeing their city. I had to do it from my on internet exploring. Not what I expected from a 5 star hotel. Oh, there are 3 floors and no elevators. Positiive side, the bed was comfortable, the price was inexpensive but now I know why. Really not sure how they got a 5 star rating. I will not count on that rating in the future.

The hotel was a true 5 star property and was excellent in all respects.
