Nice hotel for lonely travellers.

Good hotel if you want to visit Edimburgh and you are alone. It's not far from the city center, well deserved by the public transport. You are just next the Commonwealth Pool and the Holyrood Park. And it's worth the price.

Pollocks Halls

Posted Aug 29, 2014
Pros: Friendly helpful staff, the breakfast.
Location: Adjacent to the Commonwealth pool and very close to Arthurs Seat and Sailsbury Craigs for lovely walks.
A great place for an affordable stay in Edinburgh during festival and Tattoo time. Its within easy walking distance of the city centre (for those who have mobilty problems, there are many buses that pass the adjacent Commenwealth Swimming Pool, with flat rate fares or and a all day rover ticket on Lothian Buses). I had a shared facilities room, the shower room and toilets were kept clean and I would guess there was one to every 3 or 4 rooms. The room was basic (as advertised) but clean, with a washbasin, towels and a kettle with tea and coffee provided, there is no tv in these rooms, but at festival times you dont need it. My matress was a little bit lumpy, but not so bad I couldent sleep. The breakfast was brilliant, its self service with many stations serving the hot full monty fried breakfast, with everything from Haggis to black pudding. The food was constantly being put out fresh and was always piping hot. There was also the continental option, fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, plus tea, coffee and fresh fruit juices. If you could'nt find something to satisfy you, then you must be very pinnickety..

Cons: Added complimentary toiletries.
Room was OK size with good facilities. Although it lacked hairdryer and lacking complimentary toiletries but other than that had a nice stay.

Good value place to stay

Posted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: Good value.
Cons: The mattresses could do with replacing with better mattresses
This is a basic but a good choice if you're looking for value for money. It is a little walk out of the centre of Edinburgh - about 20-30 mins depending on how speedy you are - but it is directly under Arthur's seat so perfect for exploring Holyrood Park. It also means that the surroundings are beautiful and quiet. The rooms are student room in a halls of residence. They are basic but clean and pleasant. My bed had a very old squeaky mattress, which was a little uncomfortable. The walls are very thin. I had problems sleeping because of noise from the surrounding rooms. The shared showers are clean and good, if not luxurious. There are plenty of them. The rooms have their own sinks.

Nice hostel

Posted Aug 25, 2014
One of the better hostel I've visited for the price. Friendly staff, amazing location ( 5 minutes walk from the mountain, nice view ). Quiet area, excellent breakfast - just too much food, from sausages, bacon, porridge, fruits, coffee, juices, to yoghurt and granola, as well as vegetarian options ). Services provided at the reception like lockers for luggage in case of early check-in, maps, documentation, registration for Loch Ness day tours and other activities. Overall an amazing experience.

A surprisingly good night

Posted Aug 25, 2014 on Hotels.com
I choose Pollock Halls, based mainly on my name being Pollock. As it was student halls, I didn't expect too much, but I have to say I had a really great stay, the room was very clean and comfortable, as were the shared bathrooms. Although not directly next to key sites, it was easy to get into the centre. The staff were helpful and generally my whole stay was very enjoyable.
