Comfortable room, if a little on the small side.

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: Reception staff were excellent. A really good breakfast was provided.
Location: A 25 minute walk from the centre of Edinburgh. Good location.
The room was perfectly satisfactory for a one night stay, just a little small. The bathroom was good and had an excellent shower. Staff were extremely helpful. The hotel was in a good location next to Holyrood Park and just a 25 minute walk to the centre of Edinburgh which allowed us to park our car with no further charges.

Strange hotel setup!

Posted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: Pretty central to where we wanted to go and we could park there for free!
Cons: Ensure all televisions are in working order!
Location: Well situated and close to city centre
Arrived in Edinburgh and eventually found the entrance to the hotel, well the Pollock Halls for students. Was a very strange set up and did not realise it was like this when we booked. The hotel is within the halls complex, a bit like a small village. Check in was in Masson House and then we made our way to the hotel which was at the end of the complex. Beautiful old hotel full of character but obviously no reception and you just had to make your way to the room. Nice room on the ground floor. Lovely bathroom and the bed was very comfortable and clean. The tv was not working so we phoned reception and a repair guy (very friendly) duly arrived but struggled to sort. As it turns out we were not able to use the tv during our stay! Must say that the full english breakfast was absolutely delicious, one of the best we,ve had.

Unique and comfortable

The hotel and room were excellent. Good location in the grounds of the university and a 15 minute walk to the city Centre. After reading all the hype about breakfast we were excited about our morning meal. It did not live up to our expectations. We were also visited by room service early in the morning to clean our room, we could not fault their enthusiasm but was a little annoying. The bathroom was large however the toilet seat was very low and the shower drain was blocked so filled as you were showering.

Hotel on Uni Campus

Posted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: The fresh fruit at breakfast
Cons: Serving plates were over sized for a small table, cooked breakfast was very dry and not at all appetizing.
Location: You need transport to get into Edinburgh
Was allocated a room for people with disabilities, despite having reservation for a double room. Hotel stated this was down to Expedia, reception girl told us all rooms had single beds, which was a lie, because we saw double beds in adjacent rooms when housekeeping were cleaning the rooms.

Nice castle hotel

Posted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: Atmosphere and quietness
Cons: No
The hotel is actually part of Edinburgh University. The hotel looks like a castle from out side. The room is big and clean. The only drawback is its location quite far away from attractions.

Desk Staff Makes the Hotel

Posted Jul 7, 2014
Pros: clean, staff, breakfast
Cons: housekeeping, room environmental control (some nights were cold and no heat)
Location: List is too long to put here!!
Front desk staff makes the hotel stay very pleasant. HOWEVER, housekeeping was random. Some days things are cleaned and replenished, others they bed was straightened and that was all. Breakfast is huge, varied and wonderful. Setting clean, safe and relaxing. Access to the Mile and the rest of town was easy.

On part of the campus of Edinburgh University, the hotel is in an amazing looking old mansion, one of a pair on the grounds. Our room was in a modern addition tacked on the back. The room was fine, a bit cold, for which a space heater was provided. Breakfasts were sumptuous and included every possible morning option. Unfortunately, the room had none of the 19th century charm of the main building. There are buses steps away which take ten minutes to the city center and, best of all for the traveler, a laundromat on the university grounds, a short walk from the hotel.

Conference hotel

Hotel is alright. Gorgeous old building with good grounds and views. States that there is car parking available but doesn't mention that parking is very limited and you need a permit. The reception is based in a different building which is a bit inconvenient.

We stayed here for two nights and all staff were very helpful. Excellent breakfast. Easy access to Hollyrood Park and city centre is a 15 minute Taxi ride.
