Wonderful B&B!

Posted Jul 14, 2015
Pros: We really liked the hotels character in the building, such as the high ceilings, the extra large windows and the crown molding.
Cons: My bed was a bit springy and would be helpful to have a pillow top or foam top on the mattress for extra comfort.
Location: About 1 mile from the city center there is hiking, site seeing, tourist attractions such as the Edinburgh castle, Holyrood Place and the Royal Mile.
At the end of our journey it was nice to stay at the Sherwood Guest house as it has a great homey feel. The owner is wonderful and very welcoming. I would for sure recommend this B&B to stay in Edinburgh. If you take the train to Edinburgh take the #3 bus on North Bridge road, which turns into Minto street. Exit the bus at Salisbury place and you will see a green sign for the Sherwood Guest House across the street.

Home away from home

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Pros: Great location. The Sherwood had plenty of 'Edinburgh' character and felt comfortable and cosy. It certainly beats staying in a chain hotel.
Location: The Sherwood is a great base to explore Edinburgh. It was a short walk to the royal mile, Arthurs seat and everything else you'd want to see.
Vivienne was warm and welcoming, extremely helpful and the breakfasts were delicious. We'll definitely be back.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay but found the room you booked, too small

Customer service is second to none!

Vivienne made us feel welcome as soon as she opened the door. The house is spotless and the continental breakfast was lovely. It's the hosts attention to detail and friendly manner that will bring people back time and time again though.

Will definitely stay again

Posted Jun 3, 2015
Pros: Clean, quiet and comfortable.
Location: Close enough to walk into town or well located for the bus service which was great value for money. A short walk to Arthur's seat and a short bus ride
Lovely, clean and spacious room. Loved the small touches like the sweets and chocolates. Owner was very friendly and accommodating, letting us leave our luggage on our first and last day and helpful with her knowledge of the area. Great bus service with a bus stop just outside, also great value for money with a family all day ticket costing £8.50.

Friendly B&B in Edinburgh

Posted May 11, 2015
Pros: It was away from the "touristy" area but close enough to walk to places like the Royal Mile or Arthur's Seat easily. Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Nothing really comes to mind.
Location: The Royal Mile was about 20 minutes to walk there. Close by was Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh castle, Holyrood Palace and Meadows Park.
Vivienne, the owner, was great. She was friendly and easy to talk to. Breakfast was great with lots to choose from. She even tried to get coffee cream for my husband's morning coffee (Scots use milk for tea and coffee). Our room was clean with kettle, mugs, tea, chocolate or snacks, and bottled water provided in room each day. There was a microwave, bar fridge, and TV in the room. The house was quiet and the beds comfortable. She had information on local attractions as well as a map. Many restaurants close by for lunch/supper. I would recommend a stay here if in Edinburgh.

Nice place to crash for the night

Posted Nov 7, 2014 on Hotels
We stayed just for the night before heading out to Glasgow. The room was all right, nothing amazing but clean and the host was friendly. It's close to plenty of nice pubs to get a meal at and we had a fine nights sleep.
