A special hotel for a special occasionPosted Apr 20, 2013
Pros: The service from staff and luxurious room.
Cons: Nothing of note...some noise from the road as the windows are single pained so do not block out a lot of noise.
Location: Great location for George Street, lots of restaurants nearby - parking was an added bonus in a small private courtyard at the back.
This hotel is very special, I think before booking guests should note that a full butler service is in operation here and as long as you adjust to that I think you will find the service second to none. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff (we requested and iphone charger at 21:00 which was promptly presented!). the butler services doesnt feel pretentious/ outdated. Myself and fellow guest had a fabulous stay at The Howard. I would 100% recommend this hotel for a relaxing and special stay. I marked down one point for cleanliness as the sink in the bathroom needed a wipe out but that is really looking for a flaw - otherwise a perfect stay!

Birthday stay and dinnerPosted Jun 18, 2012
Pros: The excellent service of staff and the quality of the food
Cons: Room was a little tight and dull
Location: Hotel is excellently located 10-15(?) minutes walk from Princes St/central Edinburgh
Celebration of special birthday. The service given was excellent.Had a small private dinner which could not be faulted with outstanding food and table service.Made to feel special for the evening. All the staff were both courteous and friendly. The hotel is made up of a Georgian terrace of four houses which affects room sizes. Mine was adequate as a single person, but could have been a little tight for a couple. No luggage rack and limited drawer space. The furniture was dark wood and the room felt dark despite a large window. To be fair it did rain for the whole of my stay. The ensuite was fully tiled with a bath and shower head. Essentially the hotel is trying to project quality service (and succeeding) within a Georgian building and its character.Hotel has private car parking spaces,a Godsend in central Edinburgh.Short taxi ride to train station and to express airport bus service.

Bumped by the HowardPosted Oct 31, 2011 on Hotels.com
Whilst I can't comment on staying at the Howard since they double booked my room and let me know 12 hours before I was due to arrive. I do have to thank them for booking me into the Scotsman Hotel as a result of the double booking, and the Scotsman will be my hotel of choice from now on in Edinburgh.
