More B&B than hotel

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: Nice quiet room
Cons: Needs bar and lounge area
Location: We were able to walk into centre of Edinburgh but lots of buses take you in. Taxis very reasonable.
Just had two nights at this hotel - room very nice - huge bed and nice and quiet at back overlooking garden. Very disappointed there was no lounge to sit and read papers or have a drink after a long day. Restaurant was closed on Monday night - very surprising during August when everywhere is very busy. Also be aware limited parking - we were lucky to get a space.

The Salisbury Hotel

Posted Jul 31, 2014
Pros: Free wi-fi. Healthy, free breakfast.
Cons: Enlarge bathrooms. Replace carpeting in lobby and on stairs. Warn potential customers that there is no elevator. Ensure Wi fi works in all rooms.
Location: We didn't see anything that was very near, except the diving pool for the Commonwealth Games and the Salisbury Arms restaurant, which was excellent.
Overall, it seemed a little expensive for the quality of the hotel and the distance from downtown. The lobby was quite small and the carpeting seemed old or poor quality. It was an 8 to 10 GBP taxi ride to get to the castle. There seemed to be few good restaurants nearby. On the plus side: We ate at "Salisbury Arms" (very close to the hotel) both nights, and it was excellent. The manager of the hotel was very nice and helpful. The bathrooms were very small, but had modern fixtures. Wi-fi worked very well in our room and it was free. (It didn't work in our friends' room as well.) The free breakfast had a number of healthy choices and the wait staff were pleasant and helpful.

Few issues

Posted May 17, 2014 on Hotels.com
Although stayed one night there were a few issues. The main one was another guest entering my room after 10pm despite the door being locked. Was fortunate I was in but this kind of thing really shouldnt happen. Breakfast starts at 8am and should be ealier for those who have an early start although the hotel did kindly leave a small food bag outside the room. Banging doors from other guests nearby also wasnt great. On the plus side the hotel was nicely decorated with a comfy bed.
