“Would go back again”

The location of the hotel was very central to all city activities making it easy to walk everywhere. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were unusually large compared to other European hotels.

“A Great Hotel In A Great Location”

The Scotsman was a great place to stay in Edinburgh; ust off the Royal Mile and North Bridge giving convenient access to both Old Town and New Town. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The room was comfortable. we would definitely stay there again!

Area recommendations
Old Town is the best place to start for a real view of Edinburgh. The Haymarket neighborhood, close by, was wonderful too, full of pubs and great restaurants. Petit Paris was our favorite there. Thought The Witchery restaurant though was over rated, interesting atmosphere, but the food was not impressive and service just ok.

“Cheerful and helpful staff. Excellent location”

We will be returning to this hotel. We were in a junior suite so the size was very large for european standards. The bathrooms were renovated. Lovely breakfast. Excellent staff.

Area recommendations
Nearby the train station and the buses for easy travel.

“A bit disappointed!”

I was very much looking forward to staying at this hotel. I had heard good reviews in the news media and on other internet sites. I found the physical space, i.e. the hallways and the public spaces to be cramped and a bit maze like. The room I was in was lovely but in July and August it can be a bit warm. My room was very warm to hot with one window that was broken and only a small fan to sort this out. I had to leave all the windows and curtains open all night just to make it through the night. I have to say that I found the young man who checked me in to be a bit rude. I didn't appreciate it when I asked him questions that he rolled his eyes and smirked at the other clerk. The only person who was great was the valet who helped with the bags and the showed me to my room. He was very helpful. I would definitely not return here.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the New Town area. It's let's congested, just as close to all the major attractions, more elegant, and friendlier.
Getting around
Get a week pass on the public busses. It's inexpensive and quite extensive as to where it can take you.
Dining
For Indian food go to Ghandi. It's up from the Usher Hall in the Toll Cross area, just down from The Point Hotel.
Other
Visit the Historic Cemeteries that are scattered all about Edinburgh, they are very interesting, steeped in local culture and history, and contain many beautiful monuments and grave stones.

“Club music kept me up for hours.”

I got a room on the 2nd floor. At 1am the music coming through the walls was still loud enough for me to make out the words. When I complained to the front desk they asked "does it bother you?" This wasn't street noise. The walls were actually vibrating. At 1:30 they had me repack and move to another room which they didn't make up the next day. I pointed out to both the night manager and the day manager the following morning my frustration. Their only response/remedy was "Sorry, this usually doesn't happen." Definitely not what I expect from a 5-star hotel. Location was perfect even though the hotel was surrounded by scaffolding.

“GREAT people...pedestrian condition. Reputed to be 5 Star...no way.”

Area recommendations
We were right in the middle of all the action...a fabulous, albeit, noisy location adjacent to the Royal Mile. Much history and fabulous architecture.
