“good value”

Only spent one night, but it's a great little hotel and fairly central. Only challenge was the parking. clerk said the lot behind the hotel was fine, ended up with a $75 parking ticket.

“Decent Hotel Not Enough Parking”

It was a pretty good hotel but there is very limited parking in their lot and 2 nights we had to park on the street and the second night had the windows smashed in.

Area recommendations

West End hotels have better parking and less break-ins than the downtown hotels.

“Pleasantly surprised ...”

After reading several review on Expedia and other travel websites, I decided on staying in Matrix hotel -which was actually Expedia's top pick as well. I was to stay in Edmonton for three nights. Matrix hotel met all my criteria -i.e. location, price and quality. Having said that, I was actually pleasantly surprised when I walked in the lobby to check in the hotel. I loved the modern sleek decor and knew right away that I made a good choice. I am a frequent traveler and here compared to my other experiences, here is a breakdown of pros and cons of Matrix hotel. Pros: 1. Excellent location in downtown Edmonton in a safe and clean neighborhood. 2. Clean and modern decor -good quality amenities, powerful hair dryer! 3. Free Wifi -never had access issues. 4. Excellent free continental breakfast with good selection. 5. Free parking (but see below) 6. Free fitness room (but see below) 7. Starbucks downstairs and Subway right across the street. Cons: 1. Extremely slow elevators. 2. Noise could be an issue if you are next to raging teenagers staying on same floor. 3. Parking -although free, as another reviewer said, is 'annoying'. The hotel shares a parking space/lot with a private parking place and its is very confusing which space belongs to whom. And it's hard to get in and out as the space is just too tight. The hotel doesn't give you a tag to display in your car and I got ticketed by the private parking lot but the hotel took care of it.

Area recommendations

Whyte avenue is the entertainment district with many bars and restaurants. Also Japser avenue which is adjacent to the Matrix hotel has many bars and restaurants.

“Wonderful Surprise”

Excellent "Euro-flavoured" hotel. I plan to go back and take my wife with me. She will love the rooms and the downtown location. I booked this hotel "blind" and so didn't know what to expect - it was grand.

“Very good hotel in price and services”

The hotel is decent at the price I've booked with Expedia and the wine/cheese tasting in the afternoon is a nice touch. Free parking, wireless and the nice complementary breakfast with real plate & untensils round out the very good feeling about this hotel.

“An excellent experience with real value for money”

We were on a family trip to Edmonton for the first time and we just chose this hotel on-line without any referral. What a wonderful experience. Very polite and decent staff. If you are looking for a place to relax in a smoke-free environment, this is the right choice for you. My wife and children have told me to make it our permanent choice and we have agreed to that.
