Lovely hotel in awesome neighbourhood

Posted Jan 24, 2015
My stay at the Varscona was easily the best hotel experience of my multi-stop business trip that took me to both ends of Canada and everywhere inbetween. The staff was incredible, even before check-in. I called a few days before my arrival to let them know that I would be checking in very late and was reassured that my room would be waiting for me. Check-in was quick, efficient, and the staff member Evan was friendly and courteous despite the late late hour. My room was very clean, spacious, and had all the same touches as the DoubleTree I had stayed in the night before, but the Varscona felt less sterile. The bed was heavenly, and a king bed was the same price as a queen at booking. The deluxe continental breakfast was amazing. This was way beyond coffee, fruit, and pastries - sausage, bacon, eggs, oatmeal are just some of the options. Overall, an amazing stay. It's amazing value considering the price of a reputable chain hotel like the DoubleTree is higher and DT doesn't include an awesome breakfast. I would definitely stay again.

The reason for our visit to Edmonton was to see our new grandson, 1 week old. The Hotel location is ideal, the staff are very welcoming and helpful and the newly renovated rooms are reasonably priced and are very nice.

Pros: Location and amenities.
Location: Good neighborhood - near to the U
I have stayed at the Varscona many times over the years. The staff is always friendly, rooms are pleasant, and they do a nice wine and cheese in the evening and breakfast in the morning.

Good location but needs upgrading

Posted Nov 20, 2014
Good points are as follows: Happy with location. Nice view of Whyte Ave from our room. Fairly comfy bed & pillows. Adequate parking set up available. Not so great points: Extremely poor water pressure..... Especially for bathroom sink.... Barely enough to brush teeth. The tub pressure was slightly better but likely not good enough to shampoo hair and rinse therefore did not attempt. Lastly, the breakfast included closes at 9:00a.m....... Not nearly long enough when on holidays & you want to sleep in a bit...... Especially since there is no restaurant on premises.

Lovely Boutique Hotel

Posted Nov 17, 2014
Pros: Great vibe. Lobby smells like coffee and baked goods because of the coffee shop in the lobby. mmmmm
Cons: breakfast area could afford to be larger. Many people waiting to sit at a table at times.
Location: University district and Fringe Festival in the area. lots of little shops to poke around in.
Recently stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is undergoing some renovations and we were able to stay on the 6th floor which had recently been finished. Clean, updated, comfortable and most importantly ....quiet. Excellent location on Whyte Avenue. Loads of little shops around plenty of bars and places to eat. Easy access to downtown and roads to Airport. Wine tasting everyday 5:30-6:30. cheese and wine in the hospitality suite. Very civilized.
