“Clean, newer hotel in Mattoon”

We visit family in Mattoon a couple of times a year and have stayed in most of the hotels in the area. Up to now, Comfort Suites was our favorite (and is still generally our first choice simply because of room size). However, this Holiday Inn Express is newer and cleaner than any of the other local hotel choices. Rooms are very similar to Hampton Inn and the non-suite Comfort Suite rooms. The deal we got was great, but this hotel is normally $20-$30 more per night than other comparable local hotels and I do not see where the extra value comes from. This hotel is across the street from the main hotel park with several restaurants within a very short drive.

“New hotel, perfectly located”

This hotel is located in the middle of Bay Street within easy walking distance of the River and its restaurants and bars as well as some of the more famous institutions in town. It has its own bar/pub with very knowledgeable bartenders who can answer all of your questions and head you in the right direction.

“The hotel was clean, bright and very new”

The staff and management that is responsible for check-in and checkout will require additional training. I booked and prepaid for two rooms at this hotel through Expedia, however the staff could not understand that my credit card was not to be charged for the room rate but only for incidental charges. After considerable time wasted and although the information was on the hotel computer they still did not believe me or my co-worker that both rooms were prepaid. Only after they contacted Expedia via telephone did they understand the prepaid process. However, they would not provide my co-worker and me a statement showing that the room rates werw removed from our prespective charge cards unless we waited possibly another hour or more until Expedia sent a fax document identifying our prepaid status. Wasting valuable time out of our business day was not a viable option. We will monitor our monthly bank statement with the hope that the room rate charge will not appear on our charge card monthly statement.

“won't be back”

The hotel was fine, clean, staff was nice. However, I was double charged (expedia charged me and then the hotel charged me again). The issue has still not been resolved after two weeks. We will not return.
