Not at all what we were expecting upon check-in, but don't let that discount this hotel/hostel. We checked in at 7:30 pm. You have to call them in advance to make sure someone is there to let you in, give you the key, information, etc. We did, and of course we had to be let in by other guests as no staff were present. We soon found out there was one person there that 'worked' for the company, but could not help us and just told us to call the same number we did and that he didn't have the key and could do nothing for us. 20 minutes later the same guy came out and told us that he had the key and could help us, but we had to pay in cash (not credit card). What???? Oh, yea, the credit card machine was broken, as well as the internet for the next day. Managed to find enough euros to pay for one night (paid for the rest of our stay the next morning), was led to our room, which was huge, with a private terrace, a queen bed, and private bathroom. Smelled of sulfur, but that's just the pipes in Spain. Power went off one night and no one could help us...I had to personally go outside, down the hall and find the circuit box for the entire floor and flip the circuit that somehow blew that night to our room. The heater may as well be a freezer for the room. Wasn't very efficient at all.
Ok, that's a ton of complaining. I'm still rating the place a 5. WONDERFUL location, minimal service, GREAT breakfast, GREAT rate, and a great stay in Valencia. I will come back!
