Nickel & DimePosted Jul 26, 2008
This hotel is good on the surface. The rooms are clean and the air conditioner works well for a European hotel. Our gripe was with the nickel and diming for extras. Pools towels cost 5 Euro pp per day. The private hotel beach costs too. Also, the pool is only open 9am to 7pm. It's a beautiful hotel and a nighttime swim would have been very nice.

Thanks for speaking about Hotel & Resort Lacona. We are glad to inform you that since last year we are providing pool towels free of charge. Lacona has a wonderful large beach and almost half of it is public; the area near the dunes is beautiful and suitable for a "Into the Wild" holiday. Our pool is closed during the night for security reasons.

Great family placePosted Jul 17, 2008
Very well set up for people traveling with kids with activities, facilities, etc. There are a lot of "extra" charges for things like beach towels (the bath towels are disappointingly thin, so you'll want to pack your own. It is close to the beach, but the beach is relatively small and crowded in summer. The umbrellas and chairs that they rent to you for a premium (22 euro a day!) are crammed together and you have to reserve the front row units (which are the only ones that guarantee you can actually see the water from your chair) ahead of time, though I was never told HOW to do this. Fortunately there is a stretch of empty beach where you can pitch your own, which I recommend.

Elba experiencePosted May 4, 2007
Pool water clean but pool bottom needed 'hovering' No room service at night. Empty fridge not good.Would rather have a selection of drinks etc to use or not as required, supplied as standard in many hotels world-wide.

Very nice, shame about the languagePosted Sep 13, 2006
I stayed at the hotel for a week in early September. The room and the hotel overall was lovely, definitely 4 star quality. The bar staff and the restuarant manager were very helpful and polite, despite the language barrier. Very few people on the island speak English, and the hotel staff are no exception. This could be irritating at times, especially when we were trying to check out of the hotel (the receptionist didn't seem to understand that I had already paid for the visit). The restaurant in the hotel serves a wide selection of good quality food, but is overpriced if you're looking to book just one meal there rather than full board. And one word about the beach... it is not the hotels private beach - you still have to pay for the use of a sunlounger. I definitely would go back there again, armed with an Italian dictionary!
