The Terrace Restaurant, located on the main-house veranda, presents sophisticated Bahamian and international cuisine, accompanied by ocean views. Renovated in 2005, the hotel's lobby displays a Great House style inspired by the islands' colonial era. Dark-wood floors and wainscoting, French doors, and wood-paddle ceiling fans complement overstuffed chairs and deep, banquette-style, high-back couches. That style extends into the library, which contains board games, a pool table, a big-screen TV, and book-filled shelves. Recreation

A 35-foot-long kidney-shaped pool provides freshwater swimming. Accessible by a flagstone path and stairway leading down from the hotel, a beach of pinkish sand lapped with light surf runs three miles along Harbour Island's eastern shore. The hotel provides lounge chairs and thatched shades on the beach.

Use of snorkeling gear, kayaks, and boogie boards is complimentary, as is use of a lighted tennis court. Independent operators offer horseback riding on the beach.

“lovely location”

The grounds, hotel common areas and beach were exceptional. I would have enjoyed an updated bathroom and screen on the door. My request for a top room was unable to be honored due to full capacity. The feet sounds above us were very annoying. The food and wine were excellent, but expensive. I would definitely return, but I will book early to get an upper room. The trip was longer than it needed to be. There is a direct flight to Fort Lauderdale and over to Nassau.

“Would love to go back”

An ideal location on a gorgeous beach. Two excellent restaurant. A clubby atmosphere makes after dinner drinks and game playing attractive options.

Area recommendations

Harbour Island is only 3 miles long. There are no bad locations. But the Coral Sands is amazingly convenient. You can walk to any number of restaurants in town or at adjoining hotels along the beach

Dining

We had wonderful food everywhere. The Rock House is the most glamorous with wonderful food. Less expensive but with extremely tasty food is Harbour Lounge. The restaurant at Coral Sands is excellent and Aquapazza serves fine Italian food in a lovely setting.

“Would definately go back”

Wonderful lush surroundings Comfortable and simple elegance Hotel staff is very welcoming, friendly and accomodating No hassle with any changes due to unexpected situations or circumstances Easy access to the beach Short walking distances to main part of town or by golf cart Staff is eager and willing to make arrangements for local needs or attractions Relaxed and laid back atmosphere

Harbour side of island has many small local eating establishments Small local grocery stores are convenient Marinas are fun to visit for meals, drinks and watching sunsets

When to go

The off season experience was perfect for our vacation--very few people, lazy no hassle days. Do keep abreast of weather and water conditions as they can change quickly--such as tropical depressions, storms etc.

Getting around

Dunmore Town is relatively small and many attractions are within walking distance, but the main source or getting around is by golf cart. It is fun and rates are reasonable. They do have a fast boat that leaves one time a day with access to other parts of Eleuthera and Nassau.

“Coral Sands on Pink Sand Beach”

We had a wonderful, relaxing week. Could not have asked for a better locations. Staff was friendly and helpful, for the most part--got us more coat hangers immediately, always ready to fill an ice bucket, call for a rental car, whatever. The exception was some of the restaurant staff--slow and often unfriendly. The restaurant was also quite expensive so we found other places to eat around the island. Lots of people rent golf carts but we found that it is easy to walk just about anywhere on the island, and we never felt unsafe, even after dark.

“Relaxation - Coral Sands the place to be!!”

Let me first say that if you are looking for a resort with lots of activities, active night life with the Four Seasons or Ritz luxury - Coral Sands is not for you. But, if you are looking for a get-a-way to relax away from the crowds in an awesome location - this is the place!! IT IS WELL WORTH THE PRICE. My husband and I spent 5 nighs at the Coral Sands to celebrate our 25th anniv. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly, offered a cool drink and escorted to our room by one of the front desk staff.Our room was just as described from the web site and very comfortable. The resort is decorated in a very nice in a British Colonial beach vibe. We chose it for the beautiful location and beach. Ahhhhh, the beach!! It is absolutly beautiful with pink sand! The water has so many colors of blue it would be difficult to describe. We loved the fact that ther are NO condos or highrises to be seen. We walked the entire beach side of the island. The only beachfront structures were private homes or resort beach bars/restaurants. We loved the Coral Sands beach bar and beach service. The staff was very friendly and accomodating - checking in with us several times during our stay on the beach. The grounds of the Coral Sands are beautiful and well maintianed. The pool area is stunning. Although we didn't spend any time at the pool. We dined twice at the Coral Sands in main restaurant - the food was wonderful. The chef's preparations will not disappoint. We will go back to Coral Sands - can't wait.

Area recommendations

Harbour Island is a wonderful little island off the beaten path. It has a very cool island vibe. Be sure to rent a golf cart to roam the island. Most visitors and islanders use golf carts to get around. Most golf carts without a golf course!Tthe local people are friendly but a little reserved. Engage them with a smile and that will warm things up. While there, be sure to eat lunch at Sip Sip. We ate there twice - wonderful food with a great beach view. For evening meals, be sure to go to the elegant Rock House and for awesome Italian - Acqua Pazza. For a fun afternoon break or low key dinner - go to Valentines. It has a great open air bar that overlooks the marina. This is a great place to take a break for an afternoon beverage and watch the beautiful yatchs. Valentines has two restaurants - we chose to eat dinner on their outside deck area after viewing an amazing sunset. Now, be aware that this is a island that depends on visitors dollars. Meals and drinks are expensive. Prices are upscale resort prices. But, we were never dissipointed with the quality of any of our meals. Average cost for dinner for two with drinks - easy $150.00 - 175.00 Our attitude is always "Hey, we are on vacation!" If you are a penny pincher - Harbour Island is not for you. As far as activities - there is relaxing on the beach, snorkling, diving and fishin - no night life. Pure and simple - that is way we love Harbour Island!!!

What to pack

Harbour Island is a very casual Island. During the day, you will see most people in shorts, swimsuits WITH coverups and flip-flops. Attire for night time dining is resort casual. Polos and nice shorts or slacks for men,women - sundress, capris, nice jeans etc. Be sure to pack a hat and lots of sunscreen. I way over packed with shorts and tops to wear during the day. For daytime outings - I just wore my bathing suit and a cover-up. Cover-ups are mandatory. This is a unique & classy little island - dress accordingly.

“Quite and relaxing”

Were there 5 days. Stayed in oceanview Jr.suite. Room was updated and nice. The grounds are well kept, clean and roosters run free. Beach is beautiful. Sand feels like powder sugar. Ate at both restaunts, very good. It is nice how the resort blends with the out doors. A place for couples. Pack light.

Traveler's tip

Have a good book. The island is very laid back, not much to do but relax. We didn't rent a golf cart. Just a short walk to everyting. Pick up a map at the airport. You can get snacks at the local stores. Sip/Sip, Valentine's and Harbor Lounge good places to eat.

“Bathroom needs updating and cleaning”

The staff was great ! But the hotel is outdated - the bathroom was dirty and the towels were stained and very rough ! The beach is GORGEOUS !! The beach and restaurant made up for the hotel condition.

I think some of the bathrooms have been updated - ask for one of those rooms !
