Costly paradise

Pros: The beach is stunning
Cons: The service is very slow
Location: Fantastic location
If you are looking for an intimate hotel on a beautiful beach then this is it. The cost of just about everything on Harbour Island is exorbitant but worth it for a few days of bliss on the powdery pink sand beach. We enjoyed travelling everywhere on foot or by golf cart on an island which is only 3 miles long and which felt extremely safe. Everyone is very friendly and helpful although service is often rather slow but when you have such fantastic views you don't really mind!

Lovely hotel at a great location

Location: Beautiful and peacful location with soft white sand and blue seas, clean and very laid back . Not a place for an highly active /partying holiday.
Great location and laid back atmosphere coupled with very professional and friendly staff. Rooms were large, clean with good aminities - would have been great to have coffee/tea making facility in the room. Some rooms had superb views. A great place for a very quiet and relaxing holiday - there is not much to do at the hotel or on the Island itself!

Glad I made the trip as I always wanted to come to the pink sand beach. Garden view room was small but clean. Food was excellent.. but expensive like most places on the island. Staff friendly and helpful.

My husband and I had a very relaxing stay at Coral Sands. The pace is easy going and casual. The grounds are extremely well kept and absolutely lovely. Our deluxe ocean view suite had old style charm and comfort, plus an fabulous view. Having two bathrooms was a bonus as well. We made good use of the fridge, but a microwave would have been helpful too. Hotel food was very good, especially the dinners. Better not to be in a hurry when you eat there, however we found that the wait staff was good when you treated them well. In particular, we enjoyed becoming acquainted with Woody, the groundskeeper, who gave us an insiders' guide to having fun on the island.

The hotel suffers from bad management and owners who are willing to finance the necessary upkeep and maintenance required to make the hotel worthy of the prices charged.

Enjoyed our Stay

Loved the location, but rooms could use some updating. Although our suite had a large walk in closet there was no drawer storage whatsoever. The bathroom was spacious with a large shower, however the sink was wall mounted so there was no base cabinet or vanity surface for placing toiletries, etc. Even with these shortcomings we would return to Coral Sands.

Beautiful beach, rooms need some updates....

We stayed in a beach-front room on the second floor of main building. Looking for an island vacation without a club med feel, we definitely found that peaceful vacation spot in Harbour Island. There was good and bad: HOTEL: The grounds and common area were beautiful and just as the website pictures advertised. While our room view was amazing, the room itself was fair. It felt a bit outdated and dingy. The bathroom sink and shower needed an update, and the room smelled of stale water when we got there. The bed was fairly comfortable, but the sheets were a bit stained. The water in the rooms is not filtered, so it is recommended that you do not drink it, but then they charge you a lot for bottled water. FOOD: The food at hotel and on island in general was outstanding (coming from a foodie), though be prepared to spend a lot. Definitely order pina coladas while on the beach. TOWN: We loved the locals, the vibe of the town, and the golf carts (which you should rent as a better option to walking) BEACH: Beautiful coral sand with blue water. Towels, chairs and umbrellas provided. SERVICE: overall friendly and helpful staff, with a few glitches here and there.... OVERALL, we enjoyed our stay and overall experience at Harbour Island. It is a peaceful and fun place to explore for a few days. For what we paid, we would have expected better rooms, but the other positive aspects made up for it.

Beautiful views, low-key vacation

Pros: The view and the limited amount of people on the beach & at the hotel
Cons: The cost of food & water at hotel & nearby locations
Location: very relaxing!
The hotel was older but most items were upgraded. The landscape was wonderful l with tropical plants everywhere. The beach bar and the open dining room had beautiful views of the ocean! We stayed in an ocean standard room, which had a flat screen tv with built-in dvd player. The room had a wonderful patio with lounges, perfect for staying to soak up sun while limiting ocean breeze on a cool windy day. I was disappointed in the pool. The heated pool was green while we were there. The beach was very clean, with very few people enjoying it at any one time. The hotel provided towels, lounges, kayaks and possibly other beach amenities at no additional cost. Refreshments were also available directly on the beach from the beach bar staff, for cost + tip. The hotel is located on a small island. There are limited choices for dining on the island, and costs are higher than I usually pay. We ate at the beach bar for lunch, which was good fare, with most entrees costing around $20 each. I was not impressed with the complimentary continental breakfast at the hotel, which was bread & pastries. I recommend Daddy D’s, which had some of the best pizza I have ever tasted. Water was a concern for me while there. The hotel provided complimentary bottled water in the room, but I found that the staff only provided it if I was in the room when they came by to service it. If I went anywhere else, I was usually charged for the bottled water.
