“great value”

Great value. clean simple room but it was great because you could easyily walk to a number of good resturants. I would stay here again

“Staying in Bardstown”

This older facility was well kept and extremely clean. Near the center of town, we were easily able to walk to the local Arts and Crafts fair and to dinner at the Talbot House. Very convenient to the Heaven Hill Distillery and Maker's Mark. I would definitely stay here again. Good value, and very comfortable.

“Good value in Bardstown, Ky.”

If we go back to Bardstown we would stay there again. Staff very friendly. Clean room.

“Reasonable hotel in Bardstown, KY”

Reception staff were most pleasant. Very quiet even though hotel was well occupied. Swimming pool was very nice and clean. Continental breakfast included hot sausage links and sausage gravy for biscuits. I would select this hotel again.

“Bourbon Trail/ Ky Derby Base”

This hotel is perfect to use as a base for seeing The Kentucky Bourbon Trail. If you are there at Ky Derby time, you can be at Churchill Downs in under an hour. Downtown Bardstown is just a couple blocks walk and if full of historic locations. My Old Kentucky Home State Park is just a stone throw away. The Best Western General Nelson is super clean. Everyone on the staff was wonderful, and the free breakfast was the best I've eaten. It was not the usual canteen style, but made fresh and set out for you in their large convention room. They even left us a special gift in our rooms in honor of the occasion... a 2011 Ky Derby Glass and sweet treats ! Next time I go to Bardstown, I will stay at The Best Western General Nelson

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail.. see where Bourbon is made, and be sure to get a stamp in their passport book. Visit all 6 and get a free gift. My Old Kentucky Home.. a federal style home that inspired Stephen Foster to write the Ky State Song. Downtown Bardstown.. Boone's Tavern, from the late 1700's. Also of intrest to me was the Proto-Cathedral.
When to go
I like to stay in Bardstown when planning a trip to the Kentucky Derby, held on the first Saturday in May. The drive to Churchill Downs is under an hour. Bardstown is far enough away to keep all the quiet charm, yet close enough to attend any Derby Party of your choosing.

“A Good Choice”

Clean and comfortable. A good value.

Area recommendations
Yoy must visit one of the many local distilleries and also the old court house (now the tourest information center) in the very cemter of town.
Dining
Walk the 3 or 4 blocks to the tavern/B&B built in 1779 at the center of town. Good food and service and lots of atmosphere.
