“Great Elko Hotel”

“Saving Grace”

After a disaster with booking and checking-in at the Day's Inn (Yuck) in Elko, NV., Expedia came to the rescue and, in a matter of minutes, we were able to change to the Holiday Inn Express and Suites about a 1/2 mile east. It was a night and day difference. THANKS Expedia!!!!

“Not impressed for the price”

The hotel was okay, but the staff did not seem very knowledgeable about the payment process, my rate, or about local restaurants. Couldn't find a restaurant nearby that was not connected to a casino, which all reek of cigarette smoke. The breakfast provided was pretty good.

“Sleepless in Elko”

The decor of the property is lovely, so get a good look and then turn around & head out the door. The air conditioner unit was ancient, but re-wired to run from the thermostat. The fan on the unit sounded like a shop vac on sterroids with only one gear - HI. I decided sweat was preferrable to it. At around 3:00AM the hallway erupted in a chorus of slamming doors which went on for a half hour. At 4:00AM some poor guest tried, as I'd done around dinner time, to get ice from the ice machine only to find out after 15 minutes of trying there was no ice - just grinding noises. At 5:00AM or so I heard the first train, at 5:56 the last train, at 6:00AM I waited for the wake up call that never came. If this is the only vacancy you can find in town - drive on. Sleeping in the car on the side of the road would be as peaceful and much more economical.
