While it may be a temptation to just chill out while visiting Espalais, remember, Midi-Pyrenees' many natural and man-made attractions lie just beyond your doorstep. Why not make tracks to the Saint Genevieve Church and Place Andre Routier in and around Astaffort, 13 miles (21 kilometers) away. Beaumont-de-Lomagne is yet another destination worth investigating. It is where you'll find the Fermat Science Museum and Notre Dame De L'Assomption. Beaumont-de-Lomagne is about 14 miles (23 kilometers) from Espalais.
While you are in Espalais, don't forget to enjoy Montauban. Approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the east, this regional transport and shopping hub is home to Place Nationale, Stade Sapiac and Montauban Golf Course. Musee Ingres, Montauban Cathedral and Pont Vieux are also good places to spend some time.
Spirituality is an intrinsic part of every community's DNA, so set aside some time to visit Midi-Pyrenees' monasteries and other important religious sites. Get outside and discover Midi-Pyrenees' many open-air markets.
Availing yourself of local expertise can be an extremely rewarding way for travelers to discover a new region. So consider singing up for one of the city walking tours, guided nature walks and cycling tours. Take a big breath and feel your worries drift away as you try out the area's gentler activities such as cycling and wildlife watching.
When it's time to leave, say a fond Au revoir / À bientôt (farewell) to the interesting people you've met and the places you've spent time.
