The Hotel and grounds are lovely, the staff were all really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent, as was the food served in the Fox bar. The food served in the Garden Room was delicious but way over priced. Top tip - eat in the Fox bar!

This is a very well run hotel, every aspect from check in, the bar, restaurant and breakfast room works extremely well. This is due to good management and great staff, and of course having a lovely establishment to work in. I thoroughly recommend this hotel,

The hotel was clean, comfortable and convenient. Rooms very comfy, with great pillows. Very nice bathroom with lovely complimentary toiletries and fluffy towels. Bar has a very good range of drinks and the menu is varied. Prices as you would expect from a 4* of this calibre. Grounds are beautiful and parking is plentiful. Recommend and look forward to staying again.

Staff were so helpful. Room was perfect and very comfortable. Very dog friendly, excellent food (breakfast and dinner) relaxing cocktail bar, small but intimate spa and sauna - all in a beautiful building within a fantastic and natural setting.

Dog friendly hotel close to Stansted which fitted what we needed for a handover of a dog before a flight and it was a special family treat for Christmas. Extremely friendly and courteous staff, they were all outstanding from reception to dining room and bar, everyone. Lovely rooms prepared with pride.

Lovely country property Pet friendly but an additional charge of £30 per room on-top of the £173 ! Had a late meal 8.30pm but burger was very dry and tasteless £30 gin and tonic £10! Bar staff very attentive Room was very austere on ground floor no decor on the walls No information about property and dining times In the room etc No makeup mirror or shower cap I arrived late on my own with my small dog Maisy at 7.40pm reception was not very helpful or welcoming told to go down a corridor and keep going! Breakfast good Was not worth the price I paid £210 plus dinner !

Wonderful service, just satisfactory room
The reception task is great and was very helpful. June selected and made a reservation at a wonderful restaurant we thoroughly enjoyed. The original room we were assigned had insect nests. The hotel kindly moved us to another room, though it was much smaller and needed some cleaning. For example, had I had cleaning supplies I would have washed/dusted the wooden blinds in the bathroom, cleaned spots of mold in the tub/shower, and wiped the outside window sills.

Amazing
We stayed here for a family wedding and everything was perfect from start to finish. The hotel and grounds are lovely and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay here again

Last minute booking becuase of air traffic control flights all cancelled. Booked into closest hotel to airport that had space for 8 of us. Wonderful surprise. Great meal. Great service. Stunning place. Shame we had to leave at 5am in the dark

Nice room, overpriced food, poor staffing
Staff were incredibly stressed and one member of staff sighed when I asked for drinks. The food was delicious but the portion sizes were tiny considering the pricing!! The bed was comfy and the room was nice and clean, it was warm and the fan came in handy. There was however breakfast trays left in the hallways for several hours, observed from 09:30 until at least 12:30, dirty linen was also left in the hallways under the stairs.

The hotel eas lovely. The food in the restaurant excellent. We booked the hotel to enjoy the walking trails. Unfortunately these are currently closed because there are falling trees throughout the property. This was not indicated on their website.

Beautiful hotel - terrible experience
A beautiful hotel ruined by a terrible experience from start to finish. Room was so hot it was like an oven, whilst a fan was provided it just pushed hot air around the room. Service from the staff was below the standard I would expect from a hotel of this price; and no help what so ever with finding a local EV charger nearby as none at the hotel. If you want a nice hotel for a romantic weekend, stay somewhere else.

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding. Lovely setting and well presented hotel. Our room was nice but unbearably hot and the hotel only provided a basic fan which made no difference at all. The bed was small and my feet were hanging off the bed and I'm only 5"5! We stayed 2 nights and housekeeping never cleaned our room. Also room service trays were left in the corridor all day without being cleared away. In addition the drink costs at the bar were very high which I felt was unnecessary as they had a captive audience with hotel guests so there was no need for the high costs they charged. Nice hotel but attention to detail is lacking, wouldn't stay here again.

We were staying Down Hall Hotel, as our daughter was getting married at another venue in August 2023. The Breakfast was very good and tasty. The Bed was good, albeit I needed to remake the bed as the sheets were not fitted correctly, also it would have been nicer, certainly more comfortable at night, if the duvet was of lighter/summer duvet weight, as my partner and I found the duvet to make us overheat. We stayed in executive room 403 on the first floor which we found to be spacious and had a pleasant view from the window overlooking the gardens and fountain. The gardens and the grounds looked lovely, but we were not there long enough to enjoy them. The building is very grand and beautiful. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We did book and try the 'Eden' Spa (I am not sure if this Spa is part of the hotel, but it was located around the side (West wing, I think), and to be truthful, we were both disappointed by this facility and in hindsight thought it was a waste of money. Having said that, my daughter who had a hot stone massage treatment, thought the experience was lovely and worthwhile, albeit rather costly. If asked if I would stay there again, honestly, I don’t know.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Lovely hotel and super caring friendly staff :) The could have been a slightly bigger selection of food, but the food they have its nice ! The ground around the hotel its amazing - really quite and peaceful. Will definitely come back again !
