Stanley Hotel

Posted Feb 19, 2015
Pros: The bed was very comfortable..the history was great to read about and the antiques fun to see.
Cons: FIX the rooms up...replace stained furniture and fix the loosing hanging wires on the heaters( and put the covers back on them.)
Location: They have tons of shops intern that are set up for tourist. We ate a cool Pizza place (Bobs) and it had a fireplace, pool tables and game machines..
The hotel is beautiful but also in a state of disrepair . Our television would not play the movie "The Shinning" . their solution was for us to move across the court yard at 11 Pm that night. I asked for them to please just change out the television. Finally they moved us to a suite. It was very spacious but the couch was stained up and in bad shape ! The old heating things at the baseboards were all apart with wires hanging out. The bathroom was clean, the bed was fantastic but no air conditioning. Even thought this was in January it was HOT. We opened the window as far as it would go to no avail as far as cooling the room off. They have BIG fans in a closet and we plugged one of those in. This all would be okay if the price matched the conditions and they did not. This place is way over priced. They sell "The Shinning " movies and T-Shirts, hats and other things ( even chocolates) but the movie was not filled there. The ghost tour is mostly about the movie that was never shot there. My suggestion is to go though and tour the hotel but find a cheaper place to stay. Oh and be sure to park early in the day or those that come to drink at the bar (that are not staying there) will take all the parking places and you will have to walk a long distance to get back inside ! Thats if you find a place .

condos at Stanley Hotel

Posted Feb 17, 2015
Pros: Roominess.
Cons: Room service was not available for the condos. Also, no literature for amenities. Had to call for WiFi codes.
Location: We were there for the ghost tour at Stanley Hotel. But lots of other activities around. Had difficulty finding place to eat late Sunday evening.
Beautiful condo! Lots of sleeping areas, kitchen well stocked with cooking and eating necessities, but no condiments. Gorgeous master bathroom. An additional 1/2 bath upstairs, and another full bath downstairs. Lots of TV's and sitting areas. Loved it!

beautiful setting

Posted Feb 6, 2015
Pros: old stuff
Cons: Food was nothing to brag about and over priced. A more common menu would help. Something more on the lines of the early 1900's.
Location: town and lake nearby.
Loved the Hotel and it's furnishings. Staff were pleasant.

Friendly staff, clean hotel, clean bathrooms, comfortable beds. Lots of historic memorabilia on walls. Restaurant bar was delicious. Beautiful grounds with wild elk roaming around. Skip the ghost tour and walk around yourselves.

Classic beautiful hotel room n need of updating

Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: Location, history, overall character. Staff was friendly and helpful
Cons: Better attention to the detail of finishes in the rooms. Clean and restore things better.
Location: Rocky Mountain National Park -- what more do you need?
I expect rooms to be small in an historic hotel, however they do need to be clean and pleasant. The tub and tile were tired, and there were gobs of dust hanging from the sprinkler nozzle. Baseboards were also dusty. Bed was extremely comfortable and linens were of high quality. The entrance way was icy, which could create serious problems in terms of liability.

Not clean, not stocked with essentuals

Dirty carpets, hair in bathroom, no coffee filters, no pull out sofa bedding. Also extra fees upon check in. Not impressed for the huge amount they charge.

Winter at the Stanley

Posted Dec 29, 2014
Location: Superb location; close to shops and restaurants of downtown Estes Park, and to RMNP.
Great historical property and location. Close proximity to RMNP. Very friendly staff. Ghost tour entertaining but don't expect a scientific ghost hunting experience. Excellent coffee and hot chocolate at cafe in basement. Happy we stayed for the experience, we enjoyed ourselves, but probably would stay elsewhere next time. This is not a knock against the Stanley, but as hikers/photographers we'd probably prefer a more casual place with a hot tub to ease the sore muscles at night. If you are less active and more into the romantic element of the property, you'd almost certainly enjoy it here. We did not eat in the dining room so can't comment on the food.
