“Heaven”

WOW! This was a great way to commence our stay in France. This Chateau is fantastic. It is great value, in a wonderful little village and so serene. We stayed in the Orangerie, which was lovely. Although the Chateau was full of guests, we hardly saw or heard anyone - bliss! The restaurant is fantastic and well worth every cent. There was also a lovely little champagne house at the bottom of the drive, which is well worth a visit. I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

“The most wonderful experience”

We found the Chateau easily and it was WOW from the first impression. I took so many photos, I just didn't know where to start. We checked in easily in the main part of the Chateau. We went to our room in the Orangery which is a newer addition and the rooms are above the Restaurant. Room was fine. We went into the village which is small and had lunch at the only Bar there is. Very French. We didn't want to leave the grounds of the Chateau, but they had no lunches available. We had an afternoon drink in the Courtyard, served by an older waiter who was just perfect for the location. Dinner was an awesome experience. I chose the full menu and my husband a la carte. Both were perfectly happy. I also had the cheese board and that initself was remarkable. The biggest trolley I have ever seen, and the cheese selection was excellent. The atmosphere was just as I hoped it would be, and of course the bottle of Champagne was perfect. Pricey, but perfect for my liking, yeasty and full flavoured. Suggested by the Sommelier. Our waitress was so professional, she was a pleasure to watch. The restaurant was full by the end of the night, and it was great to see a dog (well behaved) at his owners feet. We slept like babies, and had breakfast in the main part of the Chateau. Breakfast was fine, and the breakfast room was lovely, (not the best breakfast we had on our trip) but none the less it was fine. The experience of staying at the Chateau was and will be with us for a long time.

“Fairy tale experience complete with a moat; fantastic service, food; but long drive from town”

We went in winter and the fog hung in the trees and never went away! We had hoped by morning it would be clear but it was still very foggy. The drive to get there was very long and arduous since we had no idea if we were on the right path or not. I would recommend the hotel listing detailed descriptions of how to find it on their website that you can print and take with you (ie, you need to know which signs to follow from Epernay/Reims in order to get there and knowing this information would have made the trek MUCH simpler!). The hotel itself is fantastic, great service, the restaurant was wonderful and a very relaxing way to unwind after a long journey in the snow/ice/fog. Would love to visit in a different season and spend more time on the grounds. A few tasting rooms within walking distance.

“Breathtaking chateau”

This was our (2 adults and one 9yr old) first stop on a long road trip through France and Italy, and all three of us agree that for pure wow and drama this was by far the best hotel. We loved the moat and the traditional shape and size of the Chateau and the grounds were lovely to walk about. It made an excellent base to explore Reims and Epernay. The restaurant, although very nice, had a menu that was a bit too heavy for summer so we ate out, but I would imagine the quality was top notch,

“Feel like a duke and duchess”

The hotel far exceeded my expectations. It is very romantic. I felt like I had gone back in time and had turned into a duchess. The hotel really is a gorgeous chateau, moat and all. The public rooms were lovely. Our room/ suite was in a turret decorated with beautiful fabrics. My only complaints were that there was a little bit of mold in the bathtub and the lighting in the room was not good - hard to read and put on makeup. But I felt that was a small price to pay for staying in such a special, historic place. We ate at the restaurant both nights of our stay and were very pleased with the food and service. It isn't real close to Rheims, but with a car it wasn't a long drive and it was very pretty.

“5 Star Chateau at 3 star prices...”

From the moment we pulled into the circlular drive of Chateau de Etoges we were enchanted! I was concerned that it was only rated 3star(159 euros/night) but everything about our stay was 5 star! We stayed in Le Tour (the Tower room), a circular room in the tower of the chateau, that had 14 foot ceilings with walls in a egg shell blue and matching french provencial curtains coursing down the shuttered windows, that looked over the spring fed moat, antique furnishings(including original marble fireplace) and pictures (the bedding however was comfy and of this century) all touched off with vases of fresh ranuculas.The bathroom had been refurbished with the most exquisite bath products.We dined in the orangerie and breakfast in the morning room and both were excellent. They have done many things at the Chateau to be more green (eg. no fridges in rooms, stopped buying florida juice etc) but were only to happy to store my meds in a fridge available to guests and sent up a tea tray with my hubby as I was a little slow to get going that morning (actually I was hiding out in the very deep bath with a book). It was just a short drive to Epernay, and we took the tour at Moet&Chandon (closed for a 2 hour lunch about 12). Tours were available in 7different languages and started at 16 euros,We took the vintage tour at 29 euros and had 4 glasses of 2002 vintage Moet at the end of an ambling tour of the caves. Had we known how delightful the Chateau was we would have booked to stay longer.

Brilliant stay. The restaurant was superb as was the breakfast. The room was small but adiquate. Stunning location, France at it's best

“Living history”

A superb chateau, our room was huge, with separate bathroom, toilet/dressing room, and stairs up to another single room. All antique furniture and furnishings, it felt like staying in one of the many chateau we have paid to visit! The staff were superb and the meal in the restaurant - you need to pre-book - was Michelin standard.

“Very pleasant - but quite expensive for what it is”

We enjoyed our night at the Chateau d'Etoges, which was a welcome bit of luxury after a camping holiday. The location is beautiful and peaceful. We ate in the restaurant, which was delicious but expensive. Almost all the cars in the car park were British, and I got the impression most of the customers in the restaurant were British with a few Belgians and Germans - making me think that we were paying rather over the odds for the food.
