The edifice of the hotel itself is quite charming. Once you enter the rooms however, it becomes absolutely dreadful. The rooms all smell of mildew (I checked three different rooms). The beds were less comfortable than a 50 dollar mattress from Walmart. The carpeting was worn down to the flooring in most areas. The hotel is advertised as having free wifi in all the rooms, but once you leave the immediate area of the lobby, there is no signal. I spent one night there and once I woke up I got out as quickly as possible. One saving grace was the dining. The food and service were quite good. In fact I would say it was one of the best in the 12 days I had spent in Portugal. The hotel is well overdue for a major overhaul. Given the proper investment, this hotel has tremendous potential. But as it is right now, I would not recommend it unless you have no other choice.
