Pros: Bars and restaurants are nice for sure and the indoor lap pool is as nice as any I've encountered.
Cons: Outdoor pool area could be remodeled and better maintained. The rooms themselves show their age.
Location: Delightful tourist town ... only 30 minutes from KC, too.
Its an older property with some wonderful history and character ... but it could use about $2 million in room and property improvements.

Stealing

First I want ti start off by saying that my visit here was really great, as far as tge hotel and room beauty and cleanliness. The thing that made this such a horrible experience is that items, including my prescribed medication was stolen. That itself ruined my experience. To have something like this done to me, left me at a venerable state of mind. I stayed for a whole week, everyday I kept the do not disturb sign on the door. Our last day/night we had to switch rooms due to deciding to stay an extra night. That was the one day I did not use the disturb sign, due to no one should have been im my room in the first place. That night i left and went to a wedding amd the next morning as i packed my items back up i noticed things were missing. I notified the front desk where they tool my information down and statef that they would call if anything came up. After my long drive back to Michigan i contacted management. After going back and fourth with them for a couple of weeks they told me a staff member was in my room the last night for turn down service. I told them that my bed was never turned down, so that does not explain what they were doing in my room. Management finally agreed to give me a full refund. Needless to say it has been several months and I have still not recieved my refund. If you choose to stay here please be aware of your items, use the safe, and do not leave anything lying around. If stealing my medication wasnt bad enough they stole a bottle of pefume.

Great get away!

This was a great family getaway for us we spent 4 nights. Loved the pools and the grounds were beautiful. The kids also loved to inside lap pool. I would definitely stay here again either with the family or just my husband and I.

Sounds better than actually was

Pros: It was very nice walking through the grounds. The rooms were nice, very nice beds.
Cons: They could give more information on what there is to do. sports, where do you get the equipment? When are the outdoor movies? murder mystery
Location: We didn't do anything nearby,
We arrived on a Sunday, 4 pm, The Tavern was closed, the Cafe was closed, there was no poolside cocktail service at the outdoor pool. There was a sign that said: No beverages bought else ware allowed!! You will be asked to leave the Elms, no refund!! No drinks on our Anniversary?? Check in was basically, Here is your room key, here is the wifi code, enjoy your stay!! Massage? did you make an appointment??? Maybe I didn't do enough research or ask the right questions, but I have yet to stay anywhere that most all the amenities were CLOSED!!!! Make sure if you stay, make it a Friday or Saturday, and ask all questions prior to booking. Also, you get 2 k cups that make 2 6 oz cups of coffee, if you want more, bring a few extra from home.

Pros: History. Staff. Isolation from the city.
Cons: Restaurant is so-so.
Fantastic old property, with a great renovation in the not-too-distant past. Staff is very helpful. The Spa is OK, but requires reservations months in advance. My wife and I went for our anniversary, and wanted a couples spa treatment, but was told nothing was available. I booked for my wife solo, and there were plenty of tables available, just no staffers to service them. Disappointing. Also disappointing was the large stain on our sheets visible after turndown service. The laundry missed it, the staff making up the bed missed it, and the turndown service missed it. Replacement linens came quickly, however, and front desk gave us a certificate for the dining room for the inconvenience. I would have liked to see more signage around the property regarding its history, that's a missed opportunity for them. All in all-- go check it out, but don't pay rack rate. Look for a deal, and if you want access to the spa-- call weeks ahead of time.

Fabulous Hotel!

The Elms Hotel is in a class of its own. Modern rooms that still retain old-world charm. We had a suite and was treated like royalty. Our room porter's attention to detail was excellent. Everyday when we returned to the room it looked like we were just checking in - she was the best! The food and the service at the restaurant was great. The pool was perfect. The Ghost tour was not to be missed - thanks Jason! I'm looking forward to staying here again in the near future and for years to come. No other hotel in the region can compare. Maybe next time I will actually find time to enjoy some of the spa services.

Truly enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and courteous and always ready to help. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful and made a pleasant walk. The room was quiet and comfortable. Also enjoyed Deb who served the fifth floor hors d'oeuvres, wine, etc. in the evening. Just made for an all around relaxing weekend.

Only negative was the restaraunt waitress. She was slow in performing her duties and less than enthusiastic.
