Relaxation UtopiaPosted May 21, 2015
Pros: The staff and the relaxation
Cons: The cleaning and the website advertising
Location: The location is ideal for us, we wanted somewhere close by to "escape" to. We purposely went on off days as we did not want to "do" much.
The Elms staff is out of this world!! They all were extremely helpful and nice. The room was pretty great -- the one down side is the cleanliness of the shower. There is mold and mildew around the sealant, which would tell me the cleaning staff is not doing a good job -- and not earning their pay or tip. The ghost tour was great -- Jay the tour guide was a wealth of historical information and you can tell he has invested time and effort in discovering the history of the hotel and the ghostly occupants! The spa was pretty great too -- recommend the Grotto. Two heads up on their website that I found misleading, the Spa indicated that the gratuity was included in the price -- however, it was in addition to their advertised prices -- which tells me the website is misrepresenting. The website also advertises the ghost tour includes a viewing of the Ghost Hunters episode -- which we did not receive. Disappointed as we have always enjoyed GH -- not a deal breaker, just disappointing.

Older, historical hotel in my home town.Posted May 12, 2015
Pros: Close to my mother
Cons: cleaning staff
Location: Watkins Mill, shopping
After moving away from Excelsior Springs in 1981, I come back to visit family and friends often therefore I usually find a hotel to stay in. I've stayed at the Elms many times in the past and usually had a good if not very good stay, however, this time the person who cleaned my room must have been sick or at least had bowel problems in which she/he left the evidence in the toilet for me to find. After notifying the front desk, they did put me in another room and take care of our bill for a night, but something like that should never have happened. My toiletries were exposed to whatever may have gone into the air along with the towels and such in the room. I'll think twice before staying there again.

Weekend getawayPosted Apr 27, 2015
Cons: Better beds !
We always have a great stay, this time our bed the first night was terrible. We asked for a different room and the staff at the desk found another room with a much better bed. Thanks

Beautiful historic hotelPosted Apr 21, 2015
You will be wary of your destination as you travel through the town, but once you arrive at The Elms, the hotel itself is beautiful. The character and history of the hotel are unmatched. The restaurant; fitness facilities; and Spa complement the hotel well. We did have to call the hotel staff to come back and clean our room after we had hung the Do Not Disturb sign on the door for only an hour in the morning. By eleven the next day, they still had not been to our room to clean it. The staff was very courteous once we advised them, and our room was cleaned right away. We recommend eating at Wabash BBQ right down the road. There are other restaurants in the downtown area, but we were disappointed when only one was open on Sunday. None of the shops were open either. The town would benefit greatly if everything was open all weekend long. Instead, tourists like us had to drive into Liberty.

Beautiful hotel, relaxing atmospherePosted Apr 20, 2015
My husband and I spent the weekend here for our Anniversary and enjoyed everything about this place. Nice and secluded, lots of nooks and crannies to just go sit and enjoy, wonderful food, beautiful grounds and great staff. The Spa was very nice and I would highly recommend it.

I did miss having a microwave & refrigerator but I get that it doesn't really go with the "feel" of the place. The air vents are pretty loud but we were mostly used to them by our second night. The lap pool is amazing, the hotel & grounds are beautiful. Excelsior is not much to look at but if your staying at the Elms for the spa treatments you don't really need to go anywhere else. It's perfect for a nice relaxing weekend with your significant other.

Simply marvelousPosted Apr 10, 2015
Pros: Everything....really everything!
Location: Nice shops and wonderful locally owned restaurants. The Hall of Waters is worth the time.
Step back in time without losing any of the modern comforts. The Elms is a beautiful piece of history that you can explore and luxuriate in. The Spa along with the Grotto are an absolute must!

Took our young children for a two night stay. Very clean room, friendly staff. One night room service took an hour for 2 sandwiches and they were not even good. HOWEVER at checkout we mentioned it to the staff and they took off the charges for that particular room service order. Would recommend this to hotel to anyone.

Family of 5 with an infant...Wonderful stay!!Posted Apr 6, 2015
Pros: Clean, beautiful rooms and facilities. Friendly staff. Great value.
Cons: Absolutely nothing.
Location: We walked the downtown and grabbed donuts and the local, family run shop. They enjoyed us and even gave us a bit of their history.
My family and I stayed here for a evening getaway before finishing our trip into Kansas City to visit family for Easter. I was initially impressed by the grandeur of the hotel, but even more so by the friendliness of the staff. The facilities were excellent in every way. Clean, beautiful room. Pull-out sofa in the King Parlor room for our 8 and 12 year old. The outside pool was closed (due to cold weather) but the lap pool in the basement was beautiful and the kids really enjoyed it.
