They charge extra taxes when you check in. They told us that the extra taxes go the tourism ministry. I don't agree with them as we already pay taxes in our booking.

No hot water
The hotel was lovely from the outside and had some very beautiful features. When we arrived the receptionist told us that they had a problem as no hot water in the hotel. He offered us complementary breakfast but we were very disappointed because this is not what my wife and I expected. The room was a little dated as there was not a standalone shower but a bath with a shower over the bath. Cold washing was the situation of our 2 day stay. Other than that the room had a lovely balcony overlooking the swimming pool and gardens.

Clean and comfortable
A clean and comfortable hotel in an excellent location. Close to the old town but away from the hustle and bustle! Excellent choice for breakfast, but the restaurant in the evening did not have many options for vegetarians. The man on reception was very friendly and organised a tour of the medina for us.

Technical difficulties and poor amenities but spacious We didn’t have hot water for 2 days. They turned off the water without telling us to fix it. It still didn’t get fixed after. The heat smells like donkey poop. if you come in the winter like we did, you choose between being cold or dealing with the smell. No iron, no crib, no complimentary water (they sell it for 10x the price of the grocery store), no complimentary shampoo, no tourist maps. Spacious rooms, however.

Good one in the New Town
It is a four star hotel in the New Town. We were almost going to cancel at the last time due to a few really bad reviews but decided to take the risk counting on the good ones. In the end, we were happy with our stay. The room had a bit of smoking smell that we noticed right after entering but it was okay after airing it. The little carpet by the bed had a few stains so I removed it and did not use it. Other than that, we did not have any issues. Nice big comfy bed, spacious, well-heated room, tv with many channels. Cleaning service every day. Helpful reception staff. The location to the old town is a bit far but you can take taxis with no problems for varying prices. If you can find one willing to open the meter it takes only 15 dirhams.

I liked the spaciousness of the lobby and the grounds. Their were several options for dining and a bar, though I did not eat there. The reception clerk was very friendly and helpful. There was a bellman and shortly after checking into my room the maid came to check that linens were stocked. I think that the quick replacement of the missing floor mat was a ploy for a tip, but I did not mind. Everything worked. The shower had hot water and decent pressure. The bedding was clean and just the right weight for comfort. The room was not as clean as I would have preferred, carpets-floors-bathroom counter all left a bit to be desired. Still, I have stayed in much worse. I felt that I definitely got my money's worth. If you want any beverages in your room, buy them elsewhere. I paid more for a small soda and small water at the bar than what I paid for the room itself.

No porcelain left on the tub, no one cleans behind the toilets, weird stain on throw pillow, ewh! Hostess who checked me in had only one hand painted with nail polish, this was an indication of how the stay would be. Everything was half done. Side door wide open and no security. Not much lighting. Felt a little unsafe. I was given a room so far away from lobby. In middle of the night I was awakened by couple next door having a fight. Walls are thin. Color scheme is hunter green and yellow. I think that was popular in the 70's. So guessing it hasnt been renovated for over 40 years

Hotel's system didn't interface well with Expedia
Expedia confirmed my reservation but the check-in staff were initially unaware of it. It wasn't in their hotel computer system. They didn't believe I had pre-paid Someone had to go online on another computer back in the office and log into their Expedia account to confirm that I had reserved and paid. Waking up in the morning, the desk clerk briefly pulled a prank on me, saying there was no breakfast served on Sundays (although I had selected breakfast-included which was confirmed on check-in). After I made a shocked look and began to figure out how I could go to a restaurant and still make my morning appointment, the clerk revealed he was kidding. Perhaps I should have gotten a big chuckle out of it, but I hadn't had a full night's sleep, so I wasn't in the right frame of mind.

Booked for 2 days but stayed only one night. The phone system was ripped apart for repairs. Hotel; should have this information posted rather than us finding a dead phone with a dangling cable. Internet connection was poor. No connectivity from our room.

The breakfast is poor which is normal in Morocco. The wi-fi is awful. I have changed hotels after 36 hours of gloom.

Overbooked and turned away
They overbooked and didn't have any rooms, and then did nothing to help us. Horrible experience. We had a confirmed reservation through Hotels.com and showed up around noon. Since we were early we expected to hear that the room wasn't ready, but we wanted to leave our bags so we could go explore the town. Instead, they told us that they didn't have any rooms for the night. And then nothing...they didn't offer to rebook us anywhere else or try to help at all. They just said that they didn't have any rooms and went on with their business. They seemed very panicked so I'm guessing that we weren't the first guests with this problem that day. Hotels.com took care of the problem and issued us a refund, although I had to ask to speak to a manager to get a full refund. Their original offer was a credit for less than the room cost, but it seemed like the first person I talked to couldn't go above $100. Still annoying and wasted my time. In the end we got a refund and a $20 voucher. The hotel looked nice and I was looking forward to staying there. The ratings for anything relating to the room are a 3 because we never actually saw the room. I'm sure they were nice - the place looked newer and well kept.

Not a "Four Star Hotel"
The Hotel is rated as 4 star. Fairly cheap so did not expect much. I travel all over the world and know what to expect as an experienced traveler. The entire Hotel was very cold inside the lobby and dinning area. The only part of the hotel that was heated was your room. The entire staff looked sad and dejected. The breakfast room was so cold you needed a heavy jacket to keep warm. The only warm things on the breakfast table were cold scrambled eggs, some type of tomato and a bread substance that I tasted and could figure out what is was. A couple of pieces of bread and some canned fruit. At best this is a 2 "Star" Hotel. The few other guests at the Hotel did not look happy staying at this place.

Average hotel but not a 4*
The value for money was definitely good, and so was the comfort in the room, nice bed, clean and basic toiletries well provided. Location is perfect too, you are not too far walking distance from the train station and the old town. There is also a nice pool, and overall is good. If a downside for what this hotel is really impossible to have 4* but rather 3* is their service. Yet staff is friendly, it is slow and will not take customer's needs at first serious. The worst part from where I really have now to make a negative comment is the breakfast. An eyesore! Not only the staff did not care for cleaning the tables even though the waiters are all hanging around, they do not care to fill up the empty containers, and the choice is poor to none. Really disappointed with this. Still, it is a good hotel for 1 or 2 nights.

The hotel is quite old and is merely as good as a normal 3 star hotel. No real maintenance, some of the staff were not professional even though all were very polite with us and willing to help. I liked the swimming pool though and its surroundings, not impressive but beautiful. The price was also very good. I can say the price matched the quality of the stay but I'm disappointed as I was expecting much more from a 4 star hotel and the pictures weren't anywhere close the reality.

Hotel Volubilis is OK if you need to stay in this area, for a business trip for example but please if you are in Fez, go to a Riad. It's where the magic happens, unnfortunately not in a hotel chain where the service is mediocre and everything is made for tourists.

Good Value Hotel in Fez!
I booked this hotel as an extra night in Fez after a wedding. I wanted something simple, inexpensive and in a good location. And that is exactly what I got; staff including the restaurant manager are very friendly and helpful. And while I speak OK French, they all spoke English very well. The facility is what you would expect from a tourist hotel that caters to European tours; simple yet comfortable and CLEAN! The food is good/adequate; don't expect a gourmet spread just simple good hearty food. The location was great because it's more/less in the center parks and shopping (though the medina is a quick taxi ride away). If you're looking for an easy clean place to stay in Fez at a great rate, I can recommend Hotel Volubilis!

This is a member of local hotel chain and as such it's well-organised and well-run in general. But there are many issues that they still need to address to deserve such high room rates. Each time I wanted to enter my room I literally had a fight with the door knob which fiercely resisted opening although the key is a card and this should have never been an issue here. At least breakfast should have been included into the prices, which unfortunately isn't. They are trying to charge you as much as they can through extras which is quite intimidating and irritating I should say. Reuslt: I ended up eating outside on all meals during stay. They advertise free wi-fi internet connection in the rooms, but that's a huge L-I-E ! Each you want to get connected, you need to go down to the lobby or somewhere close to it. The room wasn't cleaned well enough and was stinking with cigarette smoke. If I ever would be in that city again, would I stay at this hotel again? Absolutely I wouldn't and I wouldn't recommend it to my foe even. You will fare much better by staying away from it. There are plenty of alternative options in this city.

This hotel is a throwback to 1975. Catering almost exclusively to European tour buses and businessmen. Little to no attempt to curb smoking in any public areas, it is not for those who cannot tolerate. Waitstaff in particular are snootier than any I have encountered elsewhere. Hotel is in Ville Nouvelle which isn't the place to be as a tourist outside of a group.
