“Perfect Riad”
We had a wonderful stay at the Le Calife. We arrived in Fes early one December evening, were met at the airport as promised and taken to the Riad. Having traveled to southern Morocco three years earlier in December (and stayed in riads for the entire stay), we knew how important it was to make sure that in the winter the riad had heat and indoor dining, and I wanted a comfortable, quiet, friendly and a slightly luxurious experience. The owners have spent a lot of time and effort on designing a riad that reflects the history and tradition of the area with all of the modern comforts and conveniences. Our expectations were met and exceeded - plenty of heat (AC in summer), nice dining room and bar and lovely rooftop terrace. Le Calife is a very elegant riad, without being pretentious. We stayed in the Emerald Suite which was just lovely but from what I could see, all of the rooms looked really nice. Free wifi that worked in the room was an added bonus, as was Darwin, the dog! Location was perfect, a short walk to a main street and to the Medina. Staff were superb, Fatima whipped up a spur of the moment delicious dinner for us and two other guests the evening we arrived. This was the nicest riad we have stayed in on our two trips to Morocco - and really the perfect mix of attentive owners / accommodations / location and service. However, after such a good experience, no other place we went to in Morocco came even close to the experience we had at Le Calife.
