“Fes is great Autumn visit - Hotel provides unique location peace & comfort 2 minutes from souks”

Lovely old Hotel that has been completely updated however still retains old liner feel about it. Can stay in older suites but I think most will be happier in modern part. Staff are very friendly and helpful and after a few days stay will do most things to please if asked. Lovely pool area to sit around and sun set is magnificent from upper terrace looking over city. Great for short break - although if you stay longer learn more about city.

The Palais Jamai is a beautiful hotel situated just inside the walls of Fes. I highly recommend it. Luxurious European style hotel with the feel of old Morocco.

“Enchanting”

Superb location steps to the Medina. A peaceful retreat where one can sit on the terrace overlooking the city and hear the Call to Prayer from hundreds of Mosques. The pool and gardens offer a tranquil setting for relaxing in the afternoon. The staff is very accomodating. The breakfast is abundant and the dinner we had was one of the best we had eaten.

The service was everything you'd hope for in a hotel. We were travelling with small children and the staff went out of their way to provide everything we needed, from warm bottles, to babysitters. Views from our room were stunning and the beautiful grounds of the hotel were the perfect antidote to the choas of the medina. We'll certainly be going back there again.

The Palais Jamai is very much the luxury hotel we expected with a tradition behind it. It is not the anonymous chain hotel that its Sofitel label might connote. Our only criticism is the somewhat obsolescent state of the bathroom/toilette facilities, which are however perfectly kept up. Marvellous view over the medina, great pool facilities.

“Excellent Location--Helpful People”

The location is great-- very close to the medina. The public rooms are lovely; the front desk/concierge staff were fabulous and very helpful. The room was alright and clean but could have been anywhere and although we requested a non-smoking room, there did not seem to be any. The Moroccan restaurant in the hotel was overrated but the bar was comfortable, friendly and had good music. The breakfast was enormous but the wait staff seemed brusque and overtaxed.

“fantastic for exploring the Medina”

The Medina is right on your doorstep so you can get back to the hotel easily after afew hours wandering through the alleyways! Definitely take up the offer of a guide ( concierge)as it is easy to get lost in the maze plus if you are female it feels safer having a male to escort you!The hotel pool is good and the buffet was ok.The moroccan restaurant was ok but honestly preferred to try other reataurants outside .Generally the hotel was of a good standard and would recommend for anyone wanting to visit Fes.

“They don't seem to understand what '5 star' means”

Gardens and pool are best feature of this hotel -beautiful. We would also recommend highly the hotel's Moroccan restaurant (but not the other drab one). Hotel falls down on a number of things that shouldn't have to be in a so-called 5 star international hotel: if you are a non-smoker, forget it. The bar and public areas reak of smoke and they even boast 'the exotic fumes of cigar smoke' in the bar. Surely a 5 star international hotel should have no smoking areas in hotels and bars for European and American vistors will rightly wish to reconsider their options if this is an issue for them. We paid for a room with a balcony but didn't get one. We did get a traditional room which was nice but it was miles away from the main area, and overlooked a flat roof on which were discarded plastic bottles and even a pair of discarded underpants!; we had a long delay waiting for a room; the evening temperature was cold but we found they only switched on the heat from 6 until 9. Surely the whole point is that one is paying this kind of money to control one's own room temperature - we compained but to no avail; the bath in our room was filthy; the bath plug didn't work, and the shower kept falling out of its fitting and spraying the walls. Best of all, we asked the concierge for a local map (essential for the medina) only to be told that they didn't have such things. So what does a concierge do if he is not there to provide help and info?
