Excellent food

Posted Mar 9, 2015
Pros: The food was the highlight of our stay.
Cons: Car park is too small.
Location: Wonderful location beside the 18th hole of the Old Course. Very close to the West Sands for a beach walk. University nearby.
We had a fabulous evening meal in the Rocca restaurant and an excellent breakfast the following morning. Our room was spacious with a modern en suite bathroom.

Very good hotel well worth the money

Posted Jan 14, 2015
Pros: Very good location, opposite the 18th hole on the Old Course and best of all we were able to take our dogs with us.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Fantastic views across the Old Course, and 5 min walk from the beach or town
Stayed Sunday night with my family as my son and I were playing the old course on Monday morning. The hotel was very smart and we had a very nice tasty breakfast in the morning. Hotel looks out on to the 18th hole of the Old Course and is about 200 yards away from the first tee. I have stayed at the other famous hotel at St Andrews but enjoyed my stay here better, both I rate highly but this hotel is better located for the town.

Communication is Key!

Posted Jan 8, 2015
Pros: Great setting beside the golf course and plenty of character.
Cons: Advance notice about the closure of the restaurant
Location: Perfect location with easy access to everything St Andrews has to offer.
This is our fourth visit to this hotel. We booked a basic room and that's what we got! Small room, heated by a free standing heater with one of the smallest double beds we had slept on in a hotel. The room was beside the main road and therefore we were disturbed by traffic in the early hours. We were looking forward to dining in the hotel's award winning Rocca Restaurant. However, when we checked in, we were told that the restaurant was closed for three days and therefore we had to book dinner at the gastro pub at the hotel. The food there was very disappointing and a huge let down when my wife and I had anticipated fine dining and had dressed appropriately. Why didn't the hotel advise us in advance that their Rocca restaurant would be closed? The hotel was very quiet so perhaps they could have considered an upgrade to compensate for the closure of the restaurant?

DISAPPOINTMENT

Posted Dec 16, 2014 on Hotels.com
We have been coming to this hotel for a few years but were disappointed this time round. Our room faced the main road and the lack of double glazing was obvious. The lone electric wall heater produced a very dry atmosphere and took a while to heat the room. The size of the room was ok but could not be described as spacious. It was also unusual having a small double bed when even the budget competition are offering larger. It really felt that booking through a price comparison website got you a lower-end room. Dined at Roca's and have to say that the food was excellent both in flavour and presentation. We were seriously disappointed by the service though. It took an hour to get a starter and a further hour for the main. "Intermediate" courses were provided but these became a distraction and the long waits were annoying. There was a marked difference in the attentiveness of individual staff. We were ably helped to select a wine but then had to wait a further 10 minutes for someone to take our food order! This was a great contrast to the breakfast staff who buzzed around being friendly and helpful. Other staff in the hotel were equally helpful and friendly. After this experience we may try somewhere else in future.

Lovely Hotel

Great location and overall very comfortable. Bed was very comfortable. Television was on a side wall, making it almost impossible to see from the bed. Also, walk in shower would have been better. Shower was in bath and side off bath was quite high. Would be difficult for an elderly person to step into.
