The lack of fresh seafood and the use of chicken too much, pork was only available on fijian night. Where are the oysters prawns large , lobster.

Best location for Island visits

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: Location of this hotel is perfect you can walk to the Marina for your island trips.
Cons: Housekeeping could pay more attention to detail.
Location: Water sports are in front of the hotel and offer a great variety. lots of fun.
Staff are friendly and happy to act quickly when requested. house keeping miss a few small things each day but when we rang them they delivered fast. Buffet is expensive but other restaurants [like the beach front one] are more reasonable. food is very high quality and wine is expensive so i suggest drinking local beer it's very good!

Good hotel close to Port Denerau

Posted Aug 15, 2014
Cons: More staff on check in at busy times. Better credit card facilities
Overall Sofitel is a good hotel, however, the processes behind the check in desk is archaic. Firstly the link to check in took approximately half an hour before I even got served. Secondly, and perhaps the most alarming, is that the staff write down your credit card number on a piece of paper instead of swiping or manually swiping your card to take the bond. For a 5 star hotel this process should be looked into.

A very nice 5 star hotel but mixed review

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: As above
Cons: don't rip off your customers!
Location: Nice facilities for kids with nearby waterpark and mini golf. Nice golf coourse.
Great 5* hotel, close to airport, brilliant pool and great for kids and families, rooms are very smart (but carpets and some aspects seem old or very used and in need of replacement), food options were great, restaurant position and surroundings were amazing overlooking the lily ponds and the beach, food was EXPENSIVE!, beach was not great with lots of thick black clay making the water a dirty colour - in comparison to the hotel we stayed at down the coast (Tambua Sands) the beach was not very nice at all. We much preferred the Tambua Sands hotel for this reason. There are various sports and water-based facilities at the sea but you have to pay to use each little thing for a tiny period of time. Not value for money at all. At Tambua Sands snorkeling gear and kayaks were free of charge to use at any time. A most disappointing moment came at check-out and I am glad I checked the bill! Every so often a line item called "Community Development Fund" was added in. This seemed to be a local tax and the charge was $1 per line item. $1 did not concern me too much. But then I saw a Community Development Fund item for $180!!!! Plus they charged us $90 for pool towels. Outrageous! I refused to pay those and made them take those off the bill reducing it by $270. Can you imagine if I hadn't checked my bill - how many guests do not check their bill! Overall this hotel seems to milk its guests for every last $$$ - smacks of rip-off. This Sofitel is very nice, but you pay, pay, pay.

Bula Wayne Thank you for your comments. We do have a voluntary charity contribution of $1 per night of stay to assist Cure Kids who does work in the children's health area. The charge of $180 was not part of this fund but would have been some other charge. Towel charges are only added for towels not returned for towel vouchers & I am sorry if this was added by error. Hotel is nice on the outside! Rooms are OK!

Posted Aug 7, 2014
Pros: The staff were very friendly!
Cons: Better options in the food. Better training in the spa.
Location: As it is in the middle of everything you can visit other hotels or go into the main town area.
Hotel is nice and the office staff are wonderful and friendly. The rooms are OK but there seems to be some obvious cost cutting going on. The food is fine if you are not Gluten Free and Vegetarian, it was very difficult to find appropriate food. The Parisian Cafe offered wonderful vege juices, this was a bonus. The Spa treatments left much to be desired, especially for the cost. And after being attacked by a huge Gecko that fell out of the roof of the burre onto my lap, my heart is not quite the same. Although I feel the spa therapist is still shaking. The hotel cab charged double to price to take me to the airport.

Bula Lisa Thank you for your comments. I have shared your views about the variety of foods for dietary needs with the chef for his attention. The local taxi company is owned by the local village not by the hotel & does work on a set rate. Vinaka Alan Burrows GM

Best overall place to stay on Denarau

Posted Aug 5, 2014
We spent one week at this resort and also visited the neighbouring Hilton, Westin and Sheraton and think that the Sofitel's amazing pool, nice beach and layout make it the best place to stay on Denarau Island. In the evenings we enjoyed fantastic live music and dance up at the bar. All the staff were attentive but not in your face and any little hick up was taken care off professionally. As the food and drink prices are high we will get an Accor card for big discounts when we return - and we will!!

Beautiful resort

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: The proximity to Port Denarau, the very friendly staff, the excellent cleanliness of the rooms, and the lovely pool area.
Cons: The maintenance crew need to check the safes in the rooms, as on both occasions we stayed there, we had to get them in to fix the safes.
Location: Right on a sandy beach (unlike other resorts) and 10 minute walk from Port Denarau where you can shop and have a meal in a number of restaurants.
We required a hotel that was close to Port Denarau, and this was ideal, with all the facilities we needed.
