FantasticPosted Nov 14, 2013
Pros: This hotel is like a home away from home - a big shout out to mama!
Location: Loved the fact that this hotel was on the beach and you could go to sleep and wake up hearing the waves
We had a fantastic stay at Tropic of Capricorn Hotel

You get MORE than you pay forPosted Oct 3, 2013
Pros: Friendly, clean, low price.
Location: Hang out on the beach, go into town, spend evenings next door at Smuggler's for the free dance and fire dance shows, try the kava ceremony.
Look, for $37-$40 US a night, you can get a private double room with en suite bathroom. And an ocean view balcony with chairs and table. And continental breakfast. The place is clean, the staff is friendly, and you're right on the beach. To me, this is great! Yes, the room is a little small. But this is a backpacker place, so if you go in with the right attitude (as in knowing what backpacker places can be like), this place is great!

Unpleasant experiencePosted Sep 10, 2013 on Hotels.com
Hotel amenities were run down despite recent renovations. No room cleaning service or toilet paper provided. Quality of service was very poor.

Great place beach front, dont knock it till you tryPosted Sep 10, 2013
Pros: it is what it is, and that's all you need
Cons: That saying if its not broken don't fix it, well that applies here
Location: I choose to do very little which was great, going to the orphanage was great, take some food and money had a great time with the kids.
I never do these reviews, but cant not for this place. To wake up and hear the ocean or have breakfast looking out to sea what more do you want. All the staff know you by name and you become part of a family not just a guest. Why stay at some big fancy place where you are just a number. A 10min taxi to nadi town cost $10, plenty of places to eat and party on next door at smugglers. While smugglers is more modern it was strange to see there guests leave and check into this place, I really cant say anything bad about the place, yes it looks abit old so what. Mama is fantastic had many a laugh with her. After booking and reading some review, I wasn't sure and had doubts, if you want 4 or 5 star this is not for you. I would rather say bad things about the place to keep people away, so whenever I want to stay I know I will get a room lol. Its a special place.

Tropic of Capricorn NO, Tropic of Crapricorn YES.Posted Aug 7, 2013
Cons: Arriving. After being on Mana Island for ten days, this was a horrible way to end the holiday.
Location: There are about five of six resorts along this stretch of Smugglers Cove that look really good. Unfortunately this one was the absolute worst.
This hotel should br renamed to the "Tropic of Crapricorn" To be fair the proprietor "Mama" is really a nice lady. Unfortunately the hotel and facilities let Faulty Towers look good. Our room with a view of the pool was actually not at all (the wall of another hotel). There was no water in the taps. There was no electricity in the plug sockets till the morning although one light bulb out of the four worked giving us minimal light. The continental breakfast was a cup of tea of coffee and 3 slices of toast! No exceptions! Thank God we were only there for the one night. This experience only happened because Qantas\Fiji Airways cancelled our Sunday flight out and we had to find accomodation for one night.

Friendly, Warm & RelaxedPosted Jul 29, 2013
Pros: Mama, the location, the food, and the open community area.
Cons: Very minor property maintenance details.
Location: The location is spectacular. The ocean views and access is outstanding. It is a quiet and relaxing property.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Mama is the BEST! She knows all there is to know about Fiji, so listen to her advice! She is funny, has a huge heart and takes excellent care of her guests. Because she sets the tone, the guests come together in friendliness and camaraderie, as well. The overall effect is a place where people feel comfortable and at home. The location is excellent and the property is well set up and modern. Her prices are very reasonable and her cooking is fantastic. While I loved my overall trip to Fiji, Mama's Tropic of Capricorn is what I enjoyed most and miss most about Fiji. I can't wait to visit again.
