There are only two places to stay in Scipio. Only the Scipio Hotel is listed on Hotels.com. From the outside, the hotel doesn’t look old, but inside it seems tired. Our room had hooks on the wall where a picture should have been hanging. The carpet was worn, and the bathroom had a slight but distinctive sewage smell. There also chips to the paint on some of the walls. We tried to check in at 3:30 but our room was not ready until 4:30. We were told that the hotel was full the night before and that they were short on staff. The people there seemed to be working very hard, but there were still many rooms that had not been cleaned the next day.
On the plus side, the air conditioning worked, the bed was comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, and the room was relatively clean. It was passable for a one night stay in the middle of nowhere.
