“Extremely good value for the money”

This hotel is comfortable and very conveniently located to both highways that cross in Flagstaff. There is a walmart right across the street and a large selection of restaurants in close proximity. Our room had all the amenities we could have asked for - free wi-fi, free breakfast (with a good selection of food, including eggs, sausages, and fresh waffles), microwave and fridge. We stayed for three nights while exploring different tourist locations around the city and had no cause for dissatisfaction. We have stayed at many hotels that are considerably higher priced than this one, but with no discernible improvement in comfort or services.

When to go
We received a 20% discount through expedia for a 3-day non-refundable off-season booking (October).

“An Okay Stay”

The front desk staff was okay - not rude, but not necessarily friendly either. The room was okay - it had a slight smell of pet urine, or something musty. The bed was pretty comfortable. The shower was somewhat gross - needs to be updated. I basically only slept in the room, most of my time was used outdoors. So, the room is good if you're just planning on spending the night and not hanging around inside all day. I didn't used the pool, but the hot tub was okay. When the jets were running it was very loud. I was pleased with the breakfast. It was pretty standard, but I was satisfied. The location was okay - not within walking distance to downtown, but also out of the way and in a quieter location. Everything was just okay...

Must see
Arboretum - I went during October and it was gorgeous!! Only $7 for admission Downtown - It was fun just to walk around downtown. There is plenty of small shops to browse around in, and places to stop and eat. Lowell Observatory - We went at night and were able to see Jupiter and its moons through a telescope. It was $10 for admission, and I felt that was a little steep for the amount of activities you can do.

“Too Loud”

Obviously this hotel has convenient access to the grand canyon, hence its name. There are also other convenient stores, restaurants, and a Walmart in walking distance. However, I definitely think one night at this hotel is more than enough if you must stay at this location. All the rooms are exterior rooms. Other guests from the hotel woke me up during the night several times yelling and laughing in the corridor outside my door. (very annoying!) Breakfast is hot but does not taste good. I was on the last stretch of a driving trip from the east coast and had sampled many breakfast platters from different types of hotels. I had eaten well at each location prior to this one--the food from this hotel was simply not good. (I am not a picky eater either!) At check out, the front desk clerk was short and became frustrated when we asked a few questions about how to drive to the Grand Canyon. She blurted a few responses then admitted she just "wasn't sure." I think it's unacceptable for a hotel with the name "grand canyon" in its title to not educate each clerk about the directions to the Grand Canyon--I know everyone has a GPS device these days but this was a very basic question, in my opinion. There are other hotels next door to this one--just stay there.

“We moved here from another Flagstaff hotel that was awful!”

We enjoyed our 7 night stay here. Our only complaints...the exercise room has NO weights at all..only a bike, an elliptical machine and a treadmill. Our third morning we walked from our room and noticed a pair of discarded ladies undies next to the hot tub so we didn't use it anymore...not enough chlorine in AZ to get me in there now. AND the laundry room has only one washer and one dryer, but it was not too terribly difficult to get a load done every couple days. We LOVED the location as it was very convenient to things we wanted to do and was far enough away from NAU that we were not looking at the droves of students that often made the downtown area feel like an every night block party. Nice experience overall.

Area recommendations
Downtown is historic and nice but usually packed with college students from NAU. Route 66 is interesting and we enjoyed our day trips to Walnut Canyon, Grand Canyon, and historic Jerome...didn't love Sedona too much. All the shops had the same things...reminded us of a cruise. Walnut Canyon is close and a wonderfully fun half day trip. Stop and pick up food for a picnic while there. Take good walking shoes!

“Good value”

Good location, clean room. Ya gotta ignore the chipped tub, toilet that takes a couple of times to flush and absolutely forget the breakfast. For the $$ it is a deal compared to other nearby hotel prices. We didn't use them but folks were all around the pool and hot tub. No train noise, no highway noise in the room.

“Average Hotel”

This is an average hotel. Rooms are clean. Hotel is located near restaurants. I thought the complimentary breakfast area could have been maintained better. Trash receptacles were running over.

“Used to be better”

The hotel has changed over the last 10 years. 3 years ago the staff was courteous and helpful and smiled. This year the staff seemed to be bothered by having to help customers. They did not smile. When I arrived the desk, clerk did accommodate my request of a ground floor room but was not friendly. The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable, unlike my last 8 stays at this hotel. Upon leaving the desk clerk, made me wait before even acknowledging my presence, he was not on the phone or with other customers, he could have just said "I will be with you in a moment" instead of ignoring me.

Area recommendations
This section of town is very quiet as it is away from the the railroad so there are not train noises. There are a lot of amenities nearby.
