Definitely would go again!Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: scenic views
We had a wonderful stay. Staff was very nice and overall the place was clean. Pool could have used some upkeep as it was very cloudy. Please book through expedia as the hotel itself kept telling us they were sold out....good job expedia!

Beautiful setting, average hotelPosted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: microwave and fridge in room, setting, staff is friendly
Cons: Definitely the spa!!! Toiletries. Price. Smoking area right outside main door--you have to walk through the fog to get to your car.
Location: Mountain Thunder Scenic Railroad, nice hike around lake, swimming, golfing
You can't beat the setting at Rocky Gap, and if you want to hike and swim, it is great for that. If you want to gamble, they do that well. However, the hotel is average, especially for the price. The rooms are smallish for the price, and the beds, etc would rate an average. The room was clean except for a missed pretzel on the floor. The toiletries are not resort standard and are skimpy, and the spa is definitely below grade--resort price but not resort experience. It is small, cramped, and massage room is separated from the next one with one of those heavy pull across curtains--you can hear it all next door.

Great place to stay. I plan to return.Posted Jul 31, 2014
Pros: It was beautiful, and lots to do (besides visit the casino).
Cons: Smoking areas were available, but they could have more than the 2 that I found available. One restaurant was also closed and shouldn't have been.
This was a great getaway, and only 90 minutes from home. Next time I'll stay for more than 1 day.

Nice hotel close to the Western Maryland RR.Posted Jul 23, 2014
Pros: Nearness to Cumberland, yet in the country by the lake.
Cons: I referred to this above; the internet service was not available.
Location: Already referred to this above.
Lovely view overlooking the lake. Saw several bunnies. One of the Starter/Rangers took me for a ride in the golf cart over the golf course. It was great. Saw a fawn and doe. The greatest difficulty was that there was no internet service from Friday morning through our stay. Unfortunately I had left my cell phone on the train on Friday and the RR emailed me on Saturday at 9am to let me know that. Without Internet access, and not realizing that I didn't have my cell phone we came home to find the email and also a phone call. Had I learned that before we left at 11am, we could have driven into the station and picked it up. As a result, it didn't arrive until today in the mail. This did not make me very happy.

Small but pleasant resortPosted Jul 22, 2014
Location: Fairly remote setting, but outdoor activity is the point of going unless it's gambling. As casinos go, it's quite small and limited range of choice.
Gorgeous mountain scenery. Nice fishing and boating lake. Outstanding golf course.

Nice hotel and golf resortPosted Jul 22, 2014
Cons: The casino will need to start paying out some money to people or they will not return. I heard this over and over while there - even in the shuttle.
Location: According to the hotel, there is nothing to see nearby. They want you to stay there and spend your money at their location.
We had two couples. I made reservations for 1 King room and 1 Double Bed room - on the lake side. When we got there, the staff said they had not notes from Expedia about our choices and there were only rooms on the golf course side and both rooms had King beds. The guys went golfing while the girls went to the casino. The slots were so tight - no one was winning - I stopped gambling because it was no fun when $53 was the most I won for the entire time I was there. I will not be going to their casino again. We girls took the free shuttle to downtown Cumberland to look around. The staff at the hotel told us there was nothing to see in downtown and it was a waste of time to go. We enjoyed the downtown visit much more than sitting in the casino, losing money. The breakfast buffet was good; dinner buffet not as good. The bar near the pro shop had the best prices for the food offered. The guys loved the golf course....except for the poison ivy and thistles in the rough. You couldn't retrieve any lost balls. Everything was quite expensive for what you got. I doubt that we will return.
