“Outstanding Hotel”
This is a beautiful hotel in Florence, which we booked only one day in advance due to a change in travel plans at a very low price. We were surprised at the quality and comfort of the rooms. Restaurant is a bit pricey, but everything else was perfect.
“Not Impressed”
Excellent breakfast with hardworking breakfast staff. Hotel was too far from any other restaurants, nothing was close. Room was small but clean and soundproof. No help with luggage. No luggage carts. Ten steps up to entrance with no ramp for luggage. Front desk staff was the most unhelpful that I have ever encountered, 10 people stood behind the front desk looking busy, but no one was able to help or answer questions. Sandwich shop had wretched plastic packaged sandwiches to eat. Why not add a cooler with cold drinks?
“We looked forward to coming home at the end of each day”
This is a very comfortable and attractive hotel. It is within easy walking distance of the center of Florence, and allowed us to take a diffeent route into town every day, seeing new parts of the town with each trip. Good neighborhood, just on the river. Staff very friendly and glad to help with any problem or request.
“not as advertised”
we were confirmed a double superior room which was advertised as "a view over the river Arno and on the Florentine hills." we were given a room that only overlooked the back of other buildings including laundry hanging on lines. also we were given a room designed for handicapped persons. we are not handicapped. so the bathroom was extremenly inconvenient. we requested a change right away but were told that there were no other rooms available.
“Great place!”
I was at the hotel for one night only, but everything was great. The hotel is clean, modern, confortable and staff nice. It is around 1,5 km from Galeria Ufizzi, a nice walk. There was one draw back: parking cost 12 Euro/day and it was not so easy to find a parking spot on the street. I would go back for sure.
“Mediocre at Best”
This is what they used to call a tourist class hotel, where lots of bus loads of tourists stay. The room was small, but clean. There was suppose to be internet access but it never worked for the week of our stay with no explanation. Our room was dark, but surprisingly quiet. The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the Duomo, but close to a lot of restaurants in the Santa Croce area. For the money we paid it wasn't terrible, but hardly a 4 star experience. The staff was never rude, but not particularly helpful. The breakfast was large by American standards, with cereal, eggs, cheese, breads but you have to get everything yourself, not even the coffee which was wretched--it tasted like instant from weird machines. This hotel is not a bad deal if you don't have high expectations.
“Very good choice”
Grand Hotel Mediterraneo is a very good choice in Florence. It is a little bit away from the main attractions, but since Florence is a pretty small city it's still within a short walking distance from almost every place we've wanted to visit. Breakfast is very good, probably the only drawback is that it does not offer a free Internet connection from the computers at the lobby and the price is quiet ridiculous
