A winner

Posted Jul 12, 2014
Grand Hotel Mediterraneo is a winner. It is along the river and within walking distance of the main Florence site and a couple of blocks away from a bus line. The staff were helped us get familiar with the layout of the area and provided great recommendations for local restaurants. The breakfast was one of the best I've had in a 'breakfast-included hotel. Clean, safe, comfortable.

Will never use expedia again. Disappointed. Not clean - no carpet in rooms.

Big, well run, classy, and handy for the sights

Posted Jun 3, 2014
Pros: The choices at breakfast are out of this world!
Location: The road beside the river into the town can be busy - far better to walk on the further side of the river, where it is quieter with better views.
We can't usually afford to stay in large fancy hotels, so for us this was a taste of luxury we rarely experience. It was wonderful to be treated with such thoughtful courtesy, to indulge in the fantastic breakfast, be fascinated by the mirrors and bidet in the gleaming bathroom, to spread out on the enormous bed. And all within a comfortable walk to the centre of one of the most beautiful cities in the world! The number 14 bus from the station drops you at the rear entrance of the hotel - the stop is named after the hotel, and the driver tells you where to get off. How could anyone complain?

The hotel and its environment.

Posted May 19, 2014
Pros: The rooms were comfortable, clean and quiet, the showers and air-conditioning effective as one would expect from a hotel in this category.
Cons: Breakfast was adequate but some foods rather 'mass-produced' and tasteless eg. cheese and meats. Scrambled egg looked off-puttingly like styrofoam.
Location: I was not aware of any cultural attractions nearby - the hotel is best regarded as a retreat from the tourist crowds in the city centre
A vast building, fairly splendidly presented but rather daunting in scale with its long corridors without any visual relief. It was further from the city centre than we had expected - rather a long walk or a bus ride, but pleasantly situated on the bank of the River Arno.

A bit far from center... Reception not helpful

Needed taxi or bus to go to center! The reception explained when asked but always in a hurry. No chance to clarify!!!

Expedia Secret Saver hotels not such a good idea

Posted May 14, 2014
Pros: Buffet breakfast was good.
Location: Nice little bar by the river in the park opposite once you have negotiated the busy road, otherwise no attractions or eating places close by.
Hotel was too far from Florence centre with busy major roads to cross. It is a modern corporate type hotel and we would have liked something older with character but that is what happens when you go for the Expedia Secret Saver hotels deal. We seemed to be ignored by 3 staff in reception at check in until I asked sternly if anyone was working here, this also occurred at the bar on one occasion. Bedroom was adequate, walls were paper thin, you could hear your neighbours conversation quite clearly and the scraping of chairs and furniture in rooms above was awful. WiFi and TV reception in the room very poor. Bathroom small and over crowded although the shower was good.

excellent hotel ,

Hard to find fault with this hotel , or its numerous facilities, three dining options plus a breakfast which is designed to ensure you are spoiled for choice, rather a long walk to the centre but if walking is no problem this hotel is sure to provide satisfaction and value for money.

Not Impressed

Posted May 12, 2014
We booked a "mystery hotel" and were looking forward to staying here. We arrived after check in time and were told the room was still not ready. When we returned later to check in, the room was less than desirable. The shower would fill up and flood within 90 seconds, the room had no towels and the hair dryer fell apart when you took it off the base. Mystery hotel should not equate to giving guests the substandard rooms.

Modern convenience in old Florence

Posted May 6, 2014
Hotel was very clean, staff not the most personable, but adequate. Breakfast (included in package) was fair, not a lot of options, but convenient. Short along the river to center of town or across the bridge to the Oltrarno neighborhood (my favorite place). Can't wait to return to "Bella Firenze"!

Solid choice in Florence

Posted Apr 23, 2014
Pros: Location, price
Cons: Breakfast
Location: On the River Arno, within walking distance of everything (but it is a good hike)
This property fills the bill if you are looking for a comfortable, reasonably priced tourist hotel not too far from the action in Florence. The hotel is spotless, comfortable, with good internet and it is on the Arno, within walking distance of the Uffizi and Pont di Vechio. To be fair, the rooms are small and chances are you'll get a room on the side of the building looking at an adjoining apartment, not the River Arno. Also, it's not a short walk to the main sites....it's at least 10 minutes or so, depending on your pace. My only criticism? The. Breakfast. Not so good. Skip the cooked foods and stick with the cold buffet. Oh yeah, and be prepared to share your stay with large tour groups.
