Great Location

Posted Jun 15, 2013
Pros: Owner was great. He even did breakfast early for us due to an early tour departure.
Cons: The bed as mentioned but it was comfortable.
Super friendly folks. Nice room with easy walk to all. Room typical for Europe but the bed creaked with every movement. Otherwise, it was a great stay.

Sewer smell in hotel

Posted Apr 25, 2012 on Hotels.com
They tried to mask it by closing all the drains in the sink and tub and spraying with room fresheners, but there was a strong sewer smell in the hotel. Very noisy in the hotel as well. It's located on half of the 3rd floor of an old building a block from the train station. I had paid for 3 nights in advance, so I had to stay, but you could do better. I certainly do not recommend it, nor would I ever consider staying there again. I thought I was splurging on a nice hotel, considering the price I paid and the pictures on the website, but in fact, it should have been rated a 2 star hotel. The proprietor is a Greek man (who appears to be friendly, until a guest has a problem, no matter how minor), his perpetually angry wife and their surly son. Was able to sleep one night of the three, due to noise in the hotel. The street was very quiet. I would have done better there.

Reasonable Enough

Posted Oct 27, 2011 on Hotels.com
The rooms are small and not particularly au courant, but they are clean and the staff is helpful. It is 3-flights up the stairs (there is a small elevator) to the reception area. You're looking at maybe a 3-5 minute walk to the train station or Piazza Santa Maria Novella and 10 (unless you're a really slow walker) to the Duomo. The continental breakfast is better than average by European standards an the WiFi was quite fast. The bottom line is that if you're looking for a clean and safe but definitely "no frills" place to stay in Florence, this is a solid choice.
