“couldn't ask for a better location...but...”
couldn't want a better location...but..they wouldn't give us a room away from the street and the people are very noisy for most of the night....we were in the old part of the hotel, which is small and the beds are hard. No air conditioning, even though it states otherwise. I agree with other reviewers about the 'staff'. Most were not overly-friendly...even on the snobbish side. Don't expect much. Florence is great! Very close to Duomo and gelato and cafe/bars are everywhere. Would recommend for location ONLY!
“Excellent location close to everything. Stop looking and just stay here.”
The hotel is located right in prime area for major sites in Firenze. It was so convenient to stop in to pick up a forgotten item or just rest before setting out again. Located in busy zone but hotel was a quiet respite.
“Tough to get to”
Our 2 night stay was great after we finally found the hotel. No where on the website does it say you can't drive directly to the hotel. We had a car and received info about the parking charges but on the site or when I called no one said a private vehicle couldn't drive to the hotel. After driving around in circles trying to figure out how to get to the hotel through the NO ENTRY obstacles on every surrounding street, we called the hotel and they told us to park the car and call back to tell them where we were so they could send someone to come and get us. Of course, you can't park anywhere so the police made us move so we drove around in circles until the garage attendant figured out who we were. He didn't speak any English so we were at his mercy that he understood what we needed. The hotel is one block from the Duomo in the heart of Florence and was what you'd expect for an old European hotel. No complaints. Breakfast was included and was varied and good for all. Although not easy to get to, definitely worth the aggravation if you want to be in the middle of everything!
“Value for money! (a clean hotel at a great location)”
The hotel well exceeded my expectations. It was 2 minute walk from the Duomo and on the main street in Florence (very safe!!!). The room was spacious for the two of us and the bathroom was CLEAN!! The only complaint I had was the bed springs....quite old I guess. Still, I would definitely return to this hotel on my next visit!
“outstanding”
we were right in the middle of all the action in Florence. You can walk to all the sights within a few minutes and the Duomo is only a block away. There's a terrific restaurant around the corner (Il Paiolo) and lots of delicious gelato. Hotel breakfast was great and the room was comfortable. We had a fantastic time.
“Great experience, Can't wait to go back”
The breakfast selection was great. The staff was friendly and accommodating. My only complaints are that the king bed was made up of two twin beds which awkwardly kept shifting during the night and also, that their restaurant recommendations led us to a tourist trap. That being said, I would return because the location was ideal and our room was extremely clean.
“Fantastic hotel, location, and staff . . . but noisy.”
This is a great hotel and I have stayed here twice. The location and breakfast are fantastic. The rooms are nice with shuttered windows that can be opened. The staff are also nice. The only problem is that it is noisy outside. I mean drunk people yelling on the street at like 1 am and that has been every night we have stayed there for both trips. It must be a main thoroughfaire from closing bars to a cheap breakfast somewhere. We tend to travel in late March before the air is on in the hotel so you have to have the window. The temp is perfect, but I would recommend that the hotel consider asking cops for assistance to keep the noise down. I would consider staying again, but not without ear plugs.
“A perfect place to stay in Firenze”
The hotel was gorgeous, spotlessly clean, the staff was superb, and the location was perfect. Out of 5 points, I would rate it a 10! The next time I visit Firenze, which will hopefully be in 2012, I will definitely stay at the Calzaiuoli. The front desk staff was very helpful with directions for sightseeing, calling a taxi on the rainy morning of our departure, and locating a branch of our bank for ATM business. Our room was beautiful. The beds were extremely comfortable, there was plenty of space for us to open our suitcases, and the bathroom was large and well-stocked with huge bath towels and first-class toiletries. We were traveling without a computer, but the hotel has a small business center with a computer and internet which you can use for a small fee. Very convenient. The inclusive buffet breakfast was delicious - scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, all kinds of rolls and pastries, assorted cheeses, fruit, cereal, and your choice of coffee, tea, cappacino, or hot chocolate. The location of the Calzaiuoli was awesome. It was on Via dei Calzaiuoli between the Duomo and the Uffizi Gallery. All other major sites were only a short walk away. Our 5 night stay at the Calzaiuoli was superb! I would definitely recommend this hotel to all of your customers!
“Best Location in Florence”
This is the 3rd time I've stayed here in the past 20 years. The location is the best. The rooms have all been redone. We had a great room with a window facing the main walking street. Soundproofed windows seem like a new addition. Bed was comfortable. The only thing missing was a down pillow. Linens were nice. Staff was helpful and cheerful. TV in italian only. WiFi in bedroom but you had to pay for the time spent. Bathtub was large and clean. hairdryer worked well. Ideal location for your first time in Florence. Breakfast was very good as was the coffee but go have a real italian latte at a cafe standing up if you really want a treat.
“Superb hotel in shadow of the Duomo!”
Lovely close-in hotel; excellent desk hosts; it just could NOT have been better--perfect location in Florence--stay there!
