Hotel Certaldo is a new 4 stars hotel built right on a river beeing originally an ancient mill dated 1500. It is the ideal hotel for leisure and business stays too. It has an outdoor pool and solarium open during spring/summer season, a fitness room, a nice green area of 500sm right next to the river, a private outdoor parking, internet point and wi-fi system and a modern well equipped meeting hall.It is located just few minutes walking from the center and from the wonderful medieval town on top of hill Certaldo Alto and same distance from Florence, Siena and Pisa (good train connections). The famous San Gimignano is only 10 minutes driving.Our various and delicious American buffet breakfast is served every morning from 7:30 to 11:00. Non-smoking hotel.

“The best hotel we had in our two weeks trip in Italy”

Nice hotel, great staff! They were very helpful from the in town restaurant selections to wineries directions in the region. A welcome glass of champagne was more than expected! The large and modern room, along with the courteous breakfast staff, made this hotel the best in our two weeks trip in Italy.

“Great hotel for base in Tuscany”

This was a wonderful place to use as home base for exploring Tuscany--equidistant from Pisa, Siena, and Florence, and in a region with many vineyards. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were modern, and it was a delight to reside there.

“Absolutely the Worst!”

Suffice it to say we will not be going back to Hotel Certaldo or to Certaldo at all. The area was very hostile towards Americans. While we expected some of this we were not prepared for the complete and utter open hostility which was shown to us by every single person we met in the area. Be warned if you go that the towns shops and restaurants shut down from about 12 noon to 3:30 or so. If you want something to eat during these times or just want to do a little shopping, tough. You will have to venture out of Certaldo and find yourself another town to visit. If you depend on the Hotel to help arrange activities, reservations, etc. good luck. Long story short, we canceled our trip in the middle of it because of such a horrible experience.

Area recommendations

None. As stated the entire town was openly hostile. This of course doesn't make much sense since presumably they are a tourist economy. Save yourself the time and money and visit somewhere else.

Getting around

Rent a car. The train station looks like it is from another century and there were roaming gangs of hostile kids along with your standard homeless people all over the station. Get yourself a map because you can't depend on the residents of Certaldo to talk to you much less give you directions. If you walk be careful. The hotel will send you out with directions for a 2 minute walk to your destination but you will find that it will be over a half a mile down a major road with no side walks and no street lights.

“Great Hotel and Great Location for Tuscany Trip”

What makes this hotel great are its staff. From the front desk people to the breakfast staff--all where very courteous, helpful, and made the stay so pleasant. The location was great--1 hour train ride to Florence and the furthest Tuscany city we visited--Montepulciano was only 1 hour and 40 minute drive away. Rooms were keep clean and bathrooms were clean and well stocked. The shower was a bit small but fine for average sized people. Could have used a dresser for folding clothes, but nice closet with refrigerator and safe. Bed was very comfortable. Certaldo is a quaint little town with the town square a short walk from the hotel. Nice quick Cable ride up to Certaldo alto--quaint hill top part of town dating back to the 1200's. All in all a wonderful experience.

“Great hotel”

“Can't wait to go back!! A gem in the Heart of Tuscany!”

Hotel Certaldo is an awesome property about 45 minutes south of Florence, 10 minutes east of San Gimignano and 30 minutes north of Sienna! A perfect location in the heart of Tuscany. The staff are friendly and helpful with directions, & winery and restaurant recommendations! The breakfast is amazing (full breakfast buffet with everything you could want to start your day, including a fabulous cappucino)! We loved EVERY minute of our stay at Hotel Certaldo!!

Don't miss out on the dining at the Medieval Castle above Certaldo called Certaldo Alto. The views and food from the restaurants up there are fantastic. The ride up the furnicular is fun too!

“Great place to stay”

The staff was very helpful and the breakfast buffet is excellent. The shower is a little bit small but very clean and modern. Would recommend without hesitation.

Drive up to (or take the tram) to Certaldo Alto and enjoy a meal at "Boccacio's" -- very romantic, delicious food and very inexpensive.

“Great Place”

Beautiful new hotel in a small Tuscany town. Forty five minutes to Florence by car. Train station is walking distance. Great full breakfast buffet. Spacious comfortable rooms. The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful with restaurant suggestions, museum reservations, adn transportation information.
