“Clean, modern hotel near the Florence airport”

A great place to stay for a final night in Florence before leaving via the airport. No restaurant in the hotel, but helpful front desk can recommend an excellent local pizza and pasta place (a nice and inexpensive break from high-end and touristy meals). Full, hot breakfast buffet a bonus. The front desk had a cab waiting for us right on time in the morning.

“Great Service-Would have liked to stay Longer”

The service was excellent, courteous and professional-from reservations, restaurant recommendation, bar service and for ordering a cab for early airport departure. Would stay again, five minutes from airport!

“A Great Alternative”

After a day of exploring the ancient, the medieval and the Renaissance in Florence it was a nice alternative to return to this quiet, calm, modern and up to the minute hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the buffet breakfast was in a peaceful setting and very varied with quantity enough to set you up for several hours of walking. As long as you accept that European hotel rooms are rarely as spacious as those in the USA you will be delighted. The bed was sumptuous and comfortable, 24 hrs of wifi for E5 and the bathroom has all you need including a deluge of hot water in the shower and the height of European civility - a bidet. Why haven't we caught on to this? It is close to the airport and the bus into the heart of Florence passes the door - a 1 euro ticket and a 15 minute ride.

Area recommendations
Aaaah. This is Florence! Make sure you visit both sides of the Arno and read a little before you go or you will be overwhelmed by the number of things to see.
Getting around
Be brave and use the buses.
What to pack
A good pair of walking shoes - the only way to see Florence.

“Hotel closest to Florence airport”

We needed a hotel close to the Florence airport and were so surprised at how clean it was. They spoke Enlgish. helped us with our luggage, called a taxi within 5 mintues at 4:15 a.m. and even had a bathtub. Great place although when you drive up you really wonder. Go on in!

“Great airport location”

The Cosmopolitan Hotel was a great place to stay my last night in Italy. My flight left early in the morning and I didn't want to hassle with traffic leaving downtown Florence. Being only 1 km from the airport, it only took me about 5 minutes by taxi. This is not the place to stay if you want to tour around Florence, as it is outside of the center of town. The hotel was very modern, with a nice room and great bathroom. The bed was a quite firm, but the pillows were great. I was a bit disappointed that there was no outdoor space to enjoy an evening cocktail. The morning buffet was good for a quick snack before heading to the airport. Overall, I would certainly recommend this hotel for others needing a place in close proximity to the airport.

Area recommendations
While in Florence, I generally stay off the Via Tornabuoni. This is a great location for shopping and sightseeing, as it is walking distance from all the main attractions.
When to go
If you're interested in shopping and touring the museums, go in January. It's cold, but most of the stores are having excellent sales and you'll have the David to yourself for as long as you want him! If you're interests are sitting in a cafe and people-watching (especially watching people waste their Italian vacation waiting in Disneyland-like lines) go in summer. If you do want to see a museum, spend the 4 Euros and reserve your ticket in advance. Trust me, it's worth it! For a better chance at warmer weather and less crowds, try April/May or Sept/Oct. The latter is wonderful for seeing the changing colors of the vineyards.

“Impressive, modern and very cosmopolitan”

I had just spent the previous five days roughing it (limited hot water) in a Trullo in Alberobello. Hotel Cosmopolitan was a great surprise with an unassuming exterior. The interior was modern, dramatic and stylized with clean lines. The concierge was helpful and spoke perfect english. With my last night in Florence, I splurged and upgraded my room from a standard to a superior. Wow, the room was beautifully decorated. The bed was plush and cozy. The bathroom was clean and beautifully decorated. My only issue was I booked the room for double occupancy and was only supplied one robe (not a big deal, we did not use it after all). There were several pizzerias down the street. Take your pick! We selected "Tito's" a five minute walk from the hotel. They served a selection of pizzas, antipasti, entrees and for dessert, yummy crepes. This was a local restaurant so brush up on your italian. I would recommend the Hotel Cosmopolitan to fellow travelers. Because it is a distance from the city center, it would not be conducive for a long stay as a tourist.

Area recommendations
I travel to Florence at least three times a year staying up to a month to visit friends and family. Each time I holiday, I stay in the city center only because Florence is a walking city. I walk everywhere: the Mercato Centrale, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza San Lorenzo, the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and so on. The train and bus station is also near by if needed.

“Perfect for a First Trip to Florence”

The Cosmopolitan is a bit out of the center of things but bus tickets were readily available at the front desk. The staff were very helpful and appreciated our attempts at speaking Italian. The room was small, but comfortable, and a perfect place to crash at the end of a day of walking. We did not opt for the hotel breakfast (included for a higher rate) but were able to find, with the help of the front desk, a wonderful little place a few blocks away serving awesome coffee and offering pastries and sandwiches.

Area recommendations
Florence is an amazingly beautiful city. I imagine hotel rates are very high in the center of town. We found staying fairly close to the airport to be perfectly fine and the neighborhood surrounding the hotel was safe and easy to get to and from.

“Great Hotel Would Highly Recommend”

Hotel was everything promised and more. Was very quiet, clean and new. Rooms were comfortable and clean! Did I mention clean!!!! Breakfast was plentiful and fresh. We seemed to be there at an off time with mostly european business travelers. Concierges were all helpful. It is a bus ride to the center of Florence. Buses ran often but the times we rode they were a bit crowded but it was worth it to not be in the noisy center of Florence and in a new Hotel! It is a short taxi ride from and to the airport. You can take a bus but we did not because we were exhausted. It was about 15 Euro...but we had 3 bags and they charge a euro per bag. I found the neighborhood to be fine and never felt uneasy. I also did not go exploring either. We were very happy with our choice and LOVED Florence.

Area recommendations
MARCADO CENTRALE....SHOP SHOP SHOP...GREAT PRICES AND A GREAT PLACE FOR LUNCH INSIDE.
When to go
We were happy with October. Weather was lovely and the crowds were tolerable.
Getting around
We took public transportation. Was handy and very affordable. I found it a bit crowded at certain times of the day. Occasionally we sprung for a cab when we had luggage. I would take a cab during rush hour. I am not a fan of crowded buses.
What to pack
Pack light!!!!! I wish I had not brought too many dressy clothes. Staying out of the city center of Florence- we did not have the occasion to go anywhere too dressy. We were so busy we just ate at places that tickled our fancy. Bring layers...the weather changed in October from warm, to light breeze to cold at night!
Shopping
Marcado Centrale. The prices are great...and I wish I bought more while I was there. I was trying to pace myself for the second half of my vacation down in Sorrento....but alas there were not as good buys as they had there in the Marcado.
Events and shows
We took the full day Tuscany bus tour with the lunch included. It was a great value and a wonderful way to see Tuscany...Sienna...San Gimagno...The lunch at the organic farm/winery was wonderful and they ply you with lots of wine! We also planned a Eurorail day trip to Venice. I would in the future recommend getting an early start. We took the bus that got us to the station quite late (first one that came was full) and then had to wait on a line to certify our rail pass. PS long lines caused up to miss our train. Had to wait 3 hours for the next one. It was a lovely day despite it being short. Spring for a cab if you have an early train!!!!
