Great locationPosted Jun 30, 2012 on Hotels.com
If all you want is a place to lay your head and you are not too particular, then this should be fine. I would describe myself that way, but next time I would spring for a better hotel. This hotel is located directly across from the train station and all attractions are easily walkable. The breakfast was your standard high carb options. The free wi-fi was great, but it didn't work in our room and I had to go to the lobby in order to use it. The bathroom was uncomfortably small, even for european standards. The air conditioner was a loud movable unit in the room, but at least it had it and it drowned out the street noises. There is a small grocery store located down the street.

Unique HotelPosted May 17, 2012 on Hotels.com
The location of the hotel is near to the railway station. It come with the basic facilities like a hostel minus the kitchen for the hostel guest. The room is big with moderate size toilet. The room does come with television and not safe deposit box (if you need either of this or both). The hotel does not have an elevator and each level required you to climb two set of stairs in order to reach the reception. (Those with bag pack will have no issue as we are carrying trolley luggage then we will have to hand carry up the stair in order to reach the reception.) Not sure if it provide free storage for luggage as we have not used the service. It provide and come with breakfast. However we stay for two night and we only received one day breakfast as the check-out day we left early and there was no pre-pack breakfast for us. The lobby to the room on the third floor (where I stay) is dark and when people open and closed the door we inside the room will know as there is something like a vacuum suction. The Main Railway Station is about 5-mins Walking Distance and also there is a supermarket just down the stair of the railway station just on the way to the hotel. And the wifi is only available at the lobby area as we have no reception within our room.

Great location and staff was especially helpful. Room was sparse-more like a dorm room. requested non-smoking room. Although we didn't smoke, the people next door did and we could actually see smoke coming from under the door. We had to put towels on the bottom of our door and spray air freshener. We stayed throughout Italy and paid the same amount in other locations and had wonderful rooms. Wouldn't stay there again

No frills, tile throughout echos, but great staff and location.Posted Nov 3, 2011
This is sort of a hostel/hotel. On hostel websites it is called Hermes Hostel, so don't get your expectations too high. Bathrooms are shared - bring your sandals for the shower! Old furniture, old cabinetry, old linens, but clean. Walking distance to eveerything from Accademia, Uffizi, Pitti Palace and more. All of the staff is extremely helpful. The hotel is within 1 minute walking distance of the Florence train station and there are above-ground trains that run right outside the building. That in mind, when you close the windows and panels, the outside noise does not bother you. However, my first night I stayed in a larger room upstairs form the reception and was fine. The next night they moved me to the correct size room for my reservation and I was right by reception. It was terribly loud for bit with the tile floors throughout echoing other travelers coming in and some horrible buzzer for what I am assuming was a late night arrival. I would try to find a better place for a reasonable price before staying there again, but I would highly recommend it to younger travelers or travelers on a budget and looking for a convenient location.

Charming upstairs hotel close to terminiPosted Oct 26, 2011 on Hotels.com
I really enjoyed my stay at hermes. Firstly, the location was perfect for me. I was close to the main train station so I was able to hop on a train to go to other locations very easily. As well, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I had a single room and shared the bathroom. If you are looking for something "Holiday- Inn American"; this is not the place for you. I am use to traveling through Mexico a lot so the accommedations were beyond suitable for me. The bed was big and clean. It is noisy during the day since it is so close to the station but by 11pm things have settled so if you are looking for a quite place; this is not the place for you. Also, the hotel is on the 2nd & 3rd floor; no elevator. Not a problem for me though. Breakfast was good and enough for me but if you are expecting a big variety breakfast not the case. I really enjoyed my stay at Hermes and would not only recommend it but I will stay there again when I returm. It is not a fancy hotel but a true gem. :)

Good location, lots of stairs!!Posted Oct 13, 2011
Hotel was in a perfect location if you are getting to Florence by train! Staff were friendly enough and helpful! Room and hotel are very plain and nothing fancy at all. Found bed and pillows to be hard and flat. But found the bathroom to be the trickiest. SMALL bathroom with the shower pretty much over the toilet and ended up with all the floor wet. But it all worked so your call. Good location but!

Nice people in a crappy hotelPosted Oct 13, 2011 on Hotels.com
Broken toilet in a shared bathroom for the floor. (Bathroom were beyond disgusting) Staff was very nice but did not speak English. Terrible and unsafe area around the train station (2 min walk from station) Room was very clean. Note-no elevator

Good room for the price.Posted Oct 11, 2011 on Hotels.com
The hotel location was quite convenient if using the rail system for travel. It was quite noisy in the room due to the windows needing to be open because the A/C units were removed for the season. Breakfast was a toasted roll, coffee, and juice. The staff was quite helpful and gave great recommendations for food. The hotel met all my needs on my trip, all for a good price.

Tourist ( Molly )Posted Oct 7, 2011
The hotel has shared bath room and lots of stairs, the toilet does not flush sometimes and others leave it dirty. As its on the main road its lots of traffic and for what ever reason the cleaner would make lots of noice at around 5am in the morning pushing trolly with sheets or towel around I assume and the coupboard doors in the hall way they would shut the door really loude. Not much choice with breakfast. no fan or AC. and the list goes on.

WORST HOTEL IN FLORENCEPosted Jul 16, 2011
I've been in hostels all over Europe that were in better condition than this place. The pictures do not do it justice... barely any furniture, NO AIR CONDITIONER (they lie...there are a few plug-in units from the '70s that blow out hot air), shower over a toilet with nothing (no tub, no step) to stop the water from leaking out of the bathroom and all over your room. No elevator so you carry your luggage up 4 to 6 flights. At night you are locked in and can't leave...if you want to leave, you have to wake up the one person on duty and ask her to let you out (at which point she demands to know exactly when you'll be back). I now know what it's like to: 1. be in the army, 2. live in a convent. Have fun swatting mosquitoes all night while melting in the 95 degree heat.
