“Florence's cleanest and most pleasant hotel.”

If you don't mind an old style hotel, you would love this one which is centrally located and close to all the shopping and is a walking distance from the the train station. The hotel is super clean and has pleasant and friendly staff. The bed is comfortable and has clean linens that smell good. Plenty of towels and everything that one would need in a bathroom. It would definitely be my first choice if I were to go back to Florence,

“Would stay here again!”

From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel at home. The location is fabulous ... close to the train station but also within easy walking distance of the sights in Florence. Our room was lovely and an exceptional value ... and the staff was very helpful in giving us dinner recommendations and allowing us to store our luggage until our train left. We could not have asked for anything more! I would recommend this hotel and plan to stay here on my return visit to Florence.

Getting there

We took the train from Rome to the Santa Maria Novella train station and left on the night train to Munich via the same station. The train is very convenient and the hotel is within easy walking distance to the SMN station.

Shopping

Ahhh, the leather goods ... its hard not to buy out the entire shop! They have beautiful gloves in almost every color imaginable as well as lovely handbags and wallets. Leave room in your luggage!

“Feel like royalty”

This was the most exquisite hotel in Florence. The full breakfast was included in our rate and the breakfast room was beautiful and the staff more than attentive. They even offered to pack us a breakfast for one of our early days out for a tour. Restaurant recommendations were perfect. We loved it ... easy to walk to all the sites and shopping as well as places to eat. Highly recommend it!

Along with the main sites, don't forget to visit the old Santa Maria pharmacy one block away.

Dining

Santa Maria Novella Hotel has a sister hotel right next door that had a contemporary bar with great atmosphere, drinks and free snacks.

“Best stay of our trip”

The hotel is ideally located, the style and decor were great. The service was awesome, and the free bikes for riding the ramparts were the clincher. Best hotel of the trip!

Area recommendations

Ride or walk the ramparts. Stroll around town after dinner. Unlike a number of other Italian destinations, we felt like this was a real community a livable place where people knew eachother and just hung out. Different from the touristy nature of other locales.

Events and shows

They do a summer concert series with some world class acts - Elton John, Jamiroquai, Arcade Fire, etc. We went to a restuarant near the main square 'Restaurante Giglio' and were treated to a free show

“Great location - great staff.”

We stayed at the Santa Maria Novella prior to and after a biking trip through Tuscany. The staff was welcoming and our room was just beautiful. The hotel is beautiful and our room was comfortable and wonderful to come back to after a day of touring through Florence. The breakfast room is lovely, wait staff attentive. We got a great recommendation for dinner (with reservation) from the front desk.

Area recommendations

The Duomo neighborhood is desirable however the whole city is very walkable from almost any location.

“Fun in Florence”

I found this hotel by reading reviews on Expedia. I took my daughters and we had a wonderful stay. They were very helpful when one of my daughters lost her cell phone in a tour car in contacting the service and getting it back for us. The location is great for walking to various restaurants and the Domo and other historical sights. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and a good variety. I would stay here again. Staff very friendly and helpful.

“Exceeded my expectations!!!”

This hotel exceeded my expectations! The quality and cleanliness of the room were great - actually very luxurious for a 4 star hotel. Except for the the clerk that tended to the front desk our last night, the rest of the hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was unbeatable! The location was superb - only a couple of blocks from "Il Duomo" (one of Florence's main attractions.) We loved our experience in this hotel and would definitely stay here again (definitely recommend it.)

As "touristy" as it might sound, take the "tourist bus" to see the city.
